Publisher's Summary

Siler House has stood silent beneath Savannah’s moss-draped oaks for decades. Notoriously haunted, it has remained empty until college-bound Jess Perry and three of her peers gather to take part in a month-long study on the paranormal. Able to talk to ghosts, Jess quickly bonds with her fellow test subjects, who have their own “gifts.” One is possessed. Another just wants to forget. The third is a guy who knows how to turn up the August heat, not to mention Jess’s heart rate…when he’s not resurrecting the dead. The study soon turns into something far more sinister when they discover that Siler House and the dark forces within are determined to keep them forever. To escape, Jess and the others must open themselves up to the true horror of Siler House and channel the very evil that seeks to hold them in.

Horror - No... Young Adult - Maybe

It is seldom that I give a book only 2 stars but this one was so cliché. It did have a few creepy moments. The young adult crowd may enjoy this book. At the age of 38 and having read/listened to my share of haunted house stories, I found it predictable and too filled with too much nonsense and gooey puppy love for my taste.

One of my favorite YA reads of ALL time!

If you could sum up The Haunting Season in three words, what would they be?

Addictive, creepy, fun!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gage. He is a wonderful combination of snarkiness, intelligence, and bravery (and okay, the fact that he s gorgeous doesn't hurt either! Lol;)

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not.

If you could rename The Haunting Season, what would you call it?

Anything I can think of might give something away, so I will have to pass rather than include potential spoliers. Sorry!

Any additional comments?

I absolutely love this book! I bought it in print first and, since it's one I kept with the intention of reading again, I thought it would be fun to have it on audio as well. Although this is technically a YA book, fans of horror will enjoy it as well. I am not a horror fan in general, however this is a very well crafted book that has a perfect combination of mystery, creepiness, snarky humor, and romance. It kept me riveted (and had me downright scared in parts!) It is very descriptive with well developed characters, a solid plotline (devoid of cliches and "eye-rolling moments" I am happy to say!;) and a creepy ambiance that was just spooky enough to be enjoyably scary, and did not cause me to throw the book across the room and need to sleep with the light on for a week!

The author delivers a thrilling adventure ride with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing and in suspense (without resorting to gorey shock-fests or worn out formulas.)
The book ended perfectly with a satisfying conclusion that was both shocking and appropriate. I found myself completely immersed in the story and could visualize it in my head as if it was a movie ( and it would make a great one!:) I can't think of anything I didn't like except that it left me wanting more, not because it lacked closure, but it was a such a fun, thrilling ride of a book that I didn't want to end. If you love creepy, paranormal reads, give this one a try. I highly recommend it.:)
