An Entertaining Suspenseful Short Story

The Grand Hotel is an entertaining, suspenseful short-story with a fascinating plot twist. The narration by Tom Jordan was excellent, and I really enjoyed this short story. I’ll be listening to more.

An unexpected twist

Somehow, in short order, less than a half hour, this story manages to take you deep into your imagination, playing out an intricate situation.

A man and his wife are out for an evening of what you think will be spousal bliss. Detailed imagery plays out and eventually you get the feeling things aren't as they seem, and sure enough, the plot twists and you find out the event is something else altogether.

I won't spoil the surprise for you, this is my favorite of the short story series so far. I can't help but wonder what could've been if the story had been a little longer, though. Would there be some more backdrop and understanding of what led to these events?

I thought this was quite original and interesting, and that the narration, clear and lush, made all the difference.

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Perfect or too perfect?

Any additional comments?

The cheery beginning overflows with incredibly visual, lush, sensual descriptions. As it goes on, this perfect hotel starts to ride the line between perfect and too perfect. First it's a little disquieting but then it returns to almost perfect. Once the tension starts, it ebbs and flows but never stops gnawing at you.

Although a lot of time is spent immersing you in the environment, the characters and their relationship have just enough personality to keep this from being a scenescape.

The narration is also immersive. In addition to drawing you into this rich setting, the narrator wonderfully captures the characters emotions, particularly the wife's, and the various tone shifts which are so important.

I've now read 5 short stories by this author, narrator pair and I really like their quality. I'm looking forward to hearing more from them in the future.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
