Publisher's summary

Giving a ride to a teenage girl hitchhiking in the middle of nowhere can be a bad idea, especially if they slip into the back seat unseen - because they're a lost and troubled spirit condemned to wander the lonely roads forever. Teenagers like Rachael can be obsessive, angry, and unreasonable, and they'll fall in love in a heartbeat. Being dead doesn't make any difference. Darren and Jean Madden should never have opened the car doors that night when their station wagon mysteriously broke down. Jean has always known her attractive husband would be a hard man to keep. Rachael won't take no for an answer. Even ghosts won't wait forever.

Campy, Creepy, Good !!

Wow! Not for the faint hearted, but.keep the lights on.. don't read late at night, when everyone is sleeping , you will
not sleep.. A real horror novel. I seldom get surprised but the author faked me out! I enjoyed it and am planning to read more from this author.

Really good classic ghost story

I came up on YA ghost stories and have found that while larger novels appeal to my (mostly) more mature mind, I do miss a simple haunting with good backstory and creepy moments.

G.M. delivers perfectly here. We have the backstory, we have the creepy ghost with their own agenda, we have creep-factor. On top of all of that though, we also have some fairly interesting characters and world-building that enhance the experience.

The author also delivered a stellar performance. I would definitely listen to more from him.

I was provided this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest review (apologies to the author for the delay). My thoughts are my own and the gift did not in any way color my review.

Great little ghost story

What made the experience of listening to The Girl in the Back Seat the most enjoyable?

I really enjoy listening to the author/narrator's voice.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rachael, because she is a ghost. Would have enjoyed the book being longer so there was more of her.

What does G.M. Hague bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Since he wrote the book I feel like he is able to provide the mood he wants portrayed through his voice.

Who was the most memorable character of The Girl in the Back Seat and why?

Darren, but only because I was dissapointed to find out about his indiscretions. He also is the focus of Rachael's love.

Any additional comments?

Definitely is my favorite book in the series so far.

Don't pick up hitchhikers!

This is just the sort of ghost story that I love to read! A little campy and predictable, a little creepy, a little humorous and a whole lot of enjoyment! I read this during October and it is perfect for Halloween reading.

Darren, his wife Jean and their friends Corey and Leann are going on holiday. Darren takes a backroad to avoid traffic and that is where the trouble begins. When their car suddenly breaks down close to a white cross and Darren tries to find out what is wrong with it, he feels an eerie presence around him. Little does he know that a hitchhiker has joined them on their trip.

Parts of the book are truly creepy, parts are campy and parts are downright sad. G.M. Hague does a great job in writing horror and he does a good job in his narration. Nothing new or really remarkable about the tale, but if you enjoy your horror ala Poe and the Twilight Zone, check out Hague's series.

Hague at his Best

Any additional comments?

In my experience, G.M. Hague writes strange, short horror stories and "The Girl in the Back Seat" is no exception! In fact, this story has been my favorite by Hague so far, especially now that I've gotten used to his narration (which does indeed require getting used to!). A couple heading off on vacation accidentally picks up an unwanted passenger on a dark, side road and ends up terrorized by a lonely spirit. It was fun to listen to and the spookiness met my expectations for this story. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sort of light horror story that includes some sexual content with ghosts.

Right down my alley

Regardless of the fact that I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review by the author, narrator or publisher, this story was my cup of tea. It has a great atmosphere of a classic "couple driving down the road and bad things happen" story.

I disagree with other reviewers who called it unoriginal. If anything, there is no reason this could not be THE original, quintessential haunted side-of-the-road story that started all the urban legends that sprang from it.

If you like quality writing, great narration and a good, spooky story, you've come to the right place. Recommended.

Creepy with some bits of humor...

If you could sum up The Girl in the Back Seat in three words, what would they be?

Lost Condemned Spirit

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl in the Back Seat?

**SPOILER ALERT**
When Rachael ended up sending the girls to the hospital, when she was intending to kill them instead

What does G.M. Hague bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oh, he is an AWESOME narrator! I love, love, LOVE his voice and accent! Even though he is the author of this series, I think he should narrate other audiobooks--even ones that are written by someone else. He gave the characters individuality and did an excellent job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Beware of Dead Hitchhikers

Hitchhiker from Hell

If you could sum up The Girl in the Back Seat in three words, what would they be?

Tense, unnerving, sad.

Would you recommend The Girl in the Back Seat to your friends? Why or why not?

Sure, it was a good horror short. A simple premise, and the story could have happened to anyone which always add to credibility of a story.

What about G.M. Hague’s performance did you like?

G. M. read quite well, and as he is also the author he was able to pace the narration so match how he imagined the characters he wrote. Usually I would avoid a book self narrated by the author but not in this case.

Who was the most memorable character of The Girl in the Back Seat and why?

Well that would be the protagonist. The feeling of doom that slowly enveloped him as the story progressed was well done.

Any additional comments?

This was a quick and enjoyable read and another good story from author G. M. Hague. The story was simple and to the point, wasn't too much buildup or back story. I would recommend it.
