So this is an extremely short story. It's part one of a serial and normally I don't read things like this till they're all out because they all usually end on a cliffhanger. And yes, this is no different. I wouldn't even call this a cliffhanger ending, it more just ends, which is why it's not a full 5 stars.
I'm not getting into the plot because I will spoil something, so all I'll say is that it makes for a nice change of pace! I loved seeing the Zombie virus from the perspective of an infected person. Michael is an awesome character and the author made him feel real. It was easy to like him and now I'm invested in his story, dammit!! I need to know what happens with him!
In all, I really enjoyed this, despite the ending! I can't wait till the whole serial is out because I reckon it will be a great story. Hopefully I won't have long to wait.
S. W. Salzman was clear and read this well. He knows how to make inflections work and made this all the more exciting. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.
I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Not your mother's apocalypse...
So, this story hinges on the fact that it is real, and not an authors imaginary apocalypse. The protagonist is infected, and in a race against the clock to try and find a cure. The story is pretty nuclear, sticking with a proscribed set of people, and doesn't stray into epic multi-POVs. This makes it stand out among the multitudes of zom-pocalypse stories out there. I've probably read books by this author before, and I have definitely enjoyed his narration for other authors. It's always great when an author is talented enough, and has the right equipment, to narrate hos own books. This isn't always ideal, but Salzmam pulls it off with aplomb. My only other quirk I need to address with this series is that it is serial. I have never liked a serial story as much as I liked this one. In fact, I despise cliffhangers, but since this story is already finished, I'm willing to spend a little more than a credit to get all three parts.
