Publisher's Summary

Witty, saucy Regency romance...
'I am a Duke. I'm not asking you to marry me. I am offering to marry you. It's a different thing entirely.'
When the Duke of Ashbury returns from war scarred, he realises he needs an heir - which means he needs a wife! When Emma Gladstone, a vicar's daughter turned seamstress, visits wearing a wedding dress, he decides on the spot that she'll do.
His terms are simple:
They will be husband and wife by night only.
No lights, no kissing.
No questions about his battle scars.
Last, and most importantly...once she's pregnant with his heir, they need never share a bed again.
But Emma is no pushover. She has secrets and some rules of her own:
They will have dinner together every evening.
With conversation.
And teasing.
Last, and most importantly...once she's seen the man beneath the scars, he can't stop her from falling in love....
When a girl meets a Duke, their marriage breaks all the rules....

I like the humour in the way its read

This is a normal, easy read, romance. I am not sure why I liked it so much when I listened to the sample. The narrator gives the Duke a sense of humour as well as bad tempered behaviour. I am not sure if the author meant him to come across this way or if its just the narrator's way of doing men's voices. Whichever it worked for me. I really enjoyed the dialogue between the two main characters. Both have a good sense of humour and behave in a "sensible" way to adapt to the story. A thoroughly enjoyable listen.

What great fun

A wonderful mix of silliness and fun with just the right amount of pathos to anchor the characters and drive their story. Mary Jane Wells is an exceptional narrator who imbues the characters’ voices with individuality and their words with the intended meaning, too rarely the case. Truly excellent narration
