Publisher's summary

Tyrel Sackett was born into trouble but vowed to justice. After having to kill a man in Tennessee, he hit the trail west with his brother Orrin. Those were the years when decent men and women lived in fear of Indians, rustlers, and killers, but the Sackett brothers worked to make the West a place where people could raise their children in peace. Orrin brought law and order from Santa Fe to Montana, and his brother Tye backed him up every step of the way. Till the day the job was done, Tye Sackett was the fastest gun alive.

Very enjoyable story

I really enjoyed this story and the growth of two brothers from the backwoods who each created a new life for themselves. Didn't want to stop listening. Louie La'Amour is awesome.

Another Great Louis L'Amour Western Yarn

The Daybreakers is another one of L'Amour's Sackett saga titles -- it is just a terrific read, in my opinion. Covering a family's exodus from Appalachia to the wild west -- history, adventure and excitement abound. I couldn't put this one down -- I had to listen straight through.

I believe that the Sackett novels are the apogee of L'Amour's writings. I hope Audible gets more of this series in it's inventory.

Great Vacation Audio Book

I took this audio book on a vacation with my son and two nephews to Colorado and Arizona last year. It was great - they got caught up in the story and we even discussed the book several times at dinner.

I'm not a prude but I don't want the boys listening to an audio book with cursing or inappropriate attitudes. This book was perfect and I was confident that its content would be appropriate for children. The Daybreakers straddles the lines between generations - it was exciting enough to hold my husband, my mother and my interest while thoroughly engaging the boys.

True Enjoyment

Louis L'Amour kept my attention; not if but when something would happen to a Sackett. Truely an enjoyable and easy listen.

Introducing the Sackett Family

As the title would indicate this is the first novel in which the main characters are L'Amour's iconic Sackett Family. Tyrel kills the last male member of the Higgins clan; with whom the Sacketts have been feuding for a generation or two. It was 'a good shooting' but Tyrel avoids being arrested or killing the lawman who'd come after him. He finds a cow camp in Arkansas and his older brother Orrin finds him and the two of them become the central characters in a rare original piece of Western fiction by the author. Perhaps that's the reason this is one of the books that stand out in the 100 or so he authored. It was perhaps the forerunner of some of his coming-of-age in the Western genre that preceded the later works like Lonesome Gods, Bendigo Shafter, and the Comstock Lode. A good listen if you like the genre.

A great read, err, listen!

I took The Daybreakers with me on a business trip. I found myself wishing the flight would take more time! David Strathairn does a very good job with the narration. His delivery is spot on. And what can be said that has not yet been said about a L'Amour Sackett saga? This is simply one of America's best storytellers at his best.

The best of the Genre

Outstanding. This is the best story that Lamour ever wrote. I come back to read it every ten years or so.
