Publisher's summary

Following her best-selling debut novel Come Away with Me, Karma Brown returns with an unforgettable story that explores the intricate dynamics of friendship and parenthood.

Hannah and Kate became friends in the fifth grade, when Hannah hit a boy for looking up Kate's skirt with a mirror.

While they've been close as sisters ever since, Hannah can't help but feel envious of the little family Kate and her husband, David, have created - complete with two perfect little girls. She and Ben have been trying for years to have a baby, so when they receive the news that she will likely never get pregnant, Hannah's heartbreak is overwhelming. But just as they begin to tentatively explore the other options, it's Kate's turn to do the rescuing. Not only does she offer to be Hannah's surrogate, but Kate is willing to use her own eggs to do so.

Full of renewed hope, excitement, and gratitude, these two families embark on an incredible journey toward parenthood...until a devastating tragedy puts everything these women have worked toward at risk of falling apart. Poignant and refreshingly honest, The Choices We Make is a powerful tale of an incredible friendship and the risks we take to make our dreams come true.

Solid read!

It’s so nice to slip into a story that’s done well! The Choices We Make has well developed characters and an engaging storyline. Sad it’s an Audible Original if that means it will have a limited audience. Enjoy!

Depressing

I found this story interesting at first, but due to the triggers (infertility, legal battles, selfishness, loss) I had to force myself to get to the end. Even the “amusing” anecdotes were dull. The end did nothing to raise my opinion.
I found the reader’s voices really annoying also.
This is a poignant story perhaps, but not an escape or “page turner” for the listener.

Painful story

This book was well written and not a lot of time travel that can make stories confusing. The subject matter and issues related to this topic are difficult to discuss not even bringing in the legal issues related to surrogacy but I will say the layers to the story make the circumstances believable.
Spoiler alert: I found Hanna to be a drama queen with few redeeming qualities. I’m not sure if that was the intentions of the author or it was the narration. Finally, do the editors ever check out how many times Hannah said “I’m ok/fine”?

Wow!!!!!

My friend is very picky with the books she reads, so when she recommended this one to me, I knew it would be so good!

The emotions this story took me on was up and down! Once I started this I couldn't stop! Will be recommending to all my book reader friends!

Excellent read!

This is a really great book that takes you on quite a journey through the friendship of two couples. I really really enjoyed this book but it’s not one I would be able to continuously read over and over.

A story that grabs your heart & won’t let go.

A story of the struggle of trying to have a baby and the ultimate “favor” that can be a heartbreak and a miracle at the same time.

Incredibly annoying main character ruined the story!

The main character, Hannah, is so moody, self-righteous, and bitchy, that it's really difficult to root for her as the story progresses. She has several tantrums throughout the story, never stopping to consider the consequences of her actions (much like a toddler). While the premise of the story is good, I can't recommend this book because of the main character. I had zero sympathy for Hannah and I found myself wishing she would pull herself together, act like an adult, and stop treating people so poorly.

How is it possible to dislike all the characters?

I found the two main characters to be whiny and annoying. I did something that I have never done before and that is fast forwarded to the end. The ending was the only redeeming quality of this book.
