Publisher's Summary

Omar Sharif leads an all-Egyptian cast in this three-part drama, recorded entirely in Egypt's capital. Adapted from Naguib Mahfouz's novels, this is a gripping family saga, with a monstrous father, a loving mother, and four children. It is set in seductive Cairo from 1917 to 1953, against a backdrop of political upheaval.

it was boring

all 3 episodes in the cairo trilogy are so-so recordings of a radio program. it's not always clear who is speaking. if i hadn't paid for it i would have turned it off. maybe a recording of the book being read would be more interesting.

Where does The Cairo Trilogy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This one is pretty unique because it's rather an Egyptian performance than a regular audiobook.

What did you like best about this story?

Since I'm originally from Cairo, Egypt, it was quite nostalgic to hear the street noise, background arabic speaking and the 1919 Egyptian revolution which reminds us a lot of what is happening nowadays.

Any additional comments?

Having Omar Sharif as the narrator makes this Mahfouz masterpiece even more valuable. The Cairo Trilogy is a must-read for anyone that was born in the region. Happy to see it published on Audible.
