Publisher's summary

When Marty Andrews gets bitten by a mangy mutt while walking her teacup poodle, her blond hair darkens, the hair on her legs starts growing at an alarming rate, and her mood swings put her dream job as a sales rep for Bobbie-Sue Cosmetics in serious jeopardy. Then a drool-worthy man shows up at her door claiming that he accidentally bit Marty. And since he's a werewolf, she is now, too. Thinking Keegan Flaherty is clearly insane, Marty refuses to believe a word until a kidnapping makes her realize there's more at stake than just her highlights. And she must put her out-of-control life in the hands of the man who makes her blood run wild in more ways than one...

Too much sex

Another really good plot ruined by too much sex. It's one thing to throw in a sex scene to forward the plot, but this was just filler. Other than the sex and the wanting to jump each other all the time the plot had good promise. Decent characters and a nice twist. A little more effort in dialogue instead of lust and this could have rated much higher.

Can't believe I kept listening...

This book must have been penned by a robot. Or maybe a really sharp chimp with a thesaurus (that was only used twice, I think). And I'm pretty sure this was one of the few times I could not get past a terrible performance - simply because the writing was so, so awful. I'm a big fan of this genre, but this was hands down my worst choice so far.

The characters are 100% one-dimensional, while the narrator had no comic timing, and sounded like she was trying to emulate Siri. Overall, not recommended. I know I will not be purchasing the next volumes in the series, and I want the last 10 hours & 14 minutes of my life back.

less bubblegum and whining.

Would you ever listen to anything by Dakota Cassidy again?

Did Meredith Mitchell do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Mitchell did a fair job with the characters.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Accidental Werewolf?

Absolulte!

What made the experience of listening to The Accidental Werewolf the most enjoyable?

The narrator was very good

What other book might you compare The Accidental Werewolf to and why?

This book can only be compared to the books in the series. This is one with a new twist and I love it!

Which scene was your favorite?

The whole book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and cried. cried only because I laughed so hard in places

Any additional comments?

Don't listen to the comments that down grade the book. This is a great Author and all of her books are great. This one in particular was better that the rest, because it had a different twist the ones before it.

Terrible reading, fluffy novel

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The book was fine. Decent storytelling but inconsistent characters. One character doesn't go from take charge, able to handle everything to vapid airhead in two seconds

If you’ve listened to books by Dakota Cassidy before, how does this one compare?

N/A

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Odd inflections that took away from the story and dramatic pauses in awkward places. Most of her sentences had a downward inflection at the end like you might hear from a particularly sober priest, a reading of 14th century poetry, or someone reading an obit. Not a romantic comedy audiobook.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

The worst lead character ever

I had to make myself finish this book. The lead character is so one dimensional and just a sniveling idiot. It made the book hard to take. Every other word was foul language it seemed. It was honestly the worst paranormal romance that I have ever read. And, I read a lot. Don’t waste your time

Everything is wrong with this book

Any additional comments?

Everything is wrong with this book. It is one long, sexist stereotype of a strong, independent female. Definitely skip this and save your brain cells.

Interesting plot line - way too much cursing

What would have made The Accidental Werewolf better?

I think Ms. Cassidy could have deleted two chapters from this book if she had deleted all of the cursing and swearing. I will give her credit for cursing creatively. However, I found it offensive. There is a time and place for cursing, but there was way too much used here that didn't fit the story line. Having said that, I think Ms. Cassidy has the talent and ability to write an interesting and fun book without all the offensive language. She could easily have used pure sarcasm and achieved the same outcome...with less cringing on the part of her readers. I don't think she'll hit the best seller's list as long as she depends on using such language. She is short-changing herself. That is a compliment...this could have gone from an overall rating of 2 to an overall rating of 4 if the language had been less offensive.

What could Dakota Cassidy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

No - this is an urban fantasy/romance story about a woman who is accidentally bitten by a werewolf. She is a successful saleswoman for a door-to-door type of cosmetic company. I have not become interested in selling make-up and I don't believe werewolves exist. So my interest hasn't peaked. However, the cute story line would interest me more if the language wasn't so offensive.

Which character – as performed by Meredith Mitchell – was your favorite?

Marty, of course. Can you imagine what it must be like to find that you have grown a new piece of anatomy? The mental image of that still makes me laugh.

What character would you cut from The Accidental Werewolf?

You know, reading the reviews I see many people complain about the narrator. However, I quite enjoyed her reading of the story and I found nothing wrong with her pacing. I would definitely read another book narrated by her.

Any additional comments?

On the positive side, the plot is creative and made me laugh. On the negative side, the swearing was not only offensive but overwhelming and did not add to the story at all. Surprisingly, some of the character elements in this book reminds me very much of Victoria Laurie's main character in her Psychic Eye series. Both books maintain that the main characters are horrible liars. When they are nervous about lying, they "over talk" the situation. The sentence structure and rhythm of the nervous patter is almost identical, even though the words are different. Both authors also curse in a creative way, although Victoria's stories do not have as much cursing as this book.
