Short and sweet

I loved the characters and storyline from the beginning. Every relationship has ups and downs but the true test is how they end up and although they both had tests they both ended up in the right place. In each other's arms. A Dickens on Main story in the heart of Texas. What a concept? But it was written well and the narrator was perfect. The emotions came through loud and clear. I got this ARC via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review,

A Christmas Romance You Can Enjoy All Year

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

It's Christmas in Texas, and while that may not mean blizzards and snow everywhere, it can mean magic and romance. Rachel describes herself as a "Texas hill country girl," but a few paragraphs of this story will prove she's much more than that. She has made a quiet pilgrimage to a small town that celebrates Christmas in a special way. But her vacation seems doomed from the start when there's a mixup with her hotel room reservation. A year earlier, she had reserved the room with the view onto Main Street so she can watch the parade from the comfort of her balcony. But the room has been inadvertently reserved to a newspaper reporter from Houston. He amicably agrees to switch rooms with her and sees in her immediately someone who can brighten what would have been a rather dull nondescript assignment. She gets his room; he gets to observe the Dickens Christmas festival through her eyes.

This is a book filled with Christmas ambiance and atmosphere. The festival includes opportunities to dress in victorian costume, and Rachel and Charlie find they're attracted to one another and to the celebration. But Rachel finds herself drawing back at one point. Is there a misunderstanding? Or is Charlie less of a believer and more of a common thief than he's willing to admit? This is good, clean Christian romance without shrill moralizing or heavy-handed preaching. I don't often read books in this genre, but I'm glad I was given the opportunity to read this one.

Kate Tyler's narration is a gift you'll want to give yourself all year. Her diction and cadence is a lovely magic you won't want to miss. She doesn't go overboard with accents, and her performance really is flawless. I don't mean to geek out, but her audio levels are consistently excellent throughout the book, and there are no distracting breath noises or other glitches. She has mastered audio editing with the same ability as her actual narration.
