Typically, I wouldn’t star individual stories and just rate the overall body of work, but decided since these were kind of all over the place I would do some math to arrive at my final star rating. Math! This could get ugly…
Snapshot – Nothing spectacularly original and fairly predictable, but an entertaining story nonetheless. 4 Stars
Loaded - Despite its politically charged agenda, this was my favorite in the collection. Very well done with a perfectly brutal ending. 4.5 Stars
Aloft – A lot of my friends dug this one. I thought it was just better than ok. It started out great and then I don’t know what the hell happened. I still enjoyed it though. 4 Stars
Rain – This one was probably the one that I was looking forward to the most and perhaps the most disappointing for me. Good premise, lackluster execution. 3 Stars
Not a bad collection. It’s just I was reeaallly looking forward to it, so my expectations were extremely high. That may have had a lot to do with my overall enjoyment of this one. Reviews and opinions are all over the map for this one. Looks to be hit or miss with a lot of folks as far as the individual stories go. The math is solid at 3.875 Stars.

Strange Weather: Four Novellas is superbly written and so close to the razor's edge that it should come with a warning label. By now, or even by three of four books earlier, it doesn't matter a fig about the writer's lineage as this is the newest blockbuster contemporary horror writer of our time. Each story, brilliantly narrated, is haunting and grabs you by the front of your shirt and scares the bejesus out of you. This is writing about real people that live and breathe and experience terror in the beautiful landscape of modern day America. We touch on political hotspots but they need to be examined, but the author never dwells. He takes you to the graveyard and lets you see for yourself why it's scary as hell. Joe Hill is a master, and good grief, for a kid that's been writing since he was 13, he's earned a seat at the table with some of the greatest horror writers before him. These four Novellas, each one vastly different than the other are just long enough to leave you begging for more. Best value I've spent here at Audible after more than 10 years. Fasten your seatbelts, this is not your dad's horror writer, this is what extraordinary horror writing looks like and I for one, can't wait to see where else Joe Hill is taking us.
