Publisher's summary

Her one bright memory in a lifetime of shadows.

Stefan Ziakas might be her father's most hated business rival, but he's the only man who has ever made Selene Antaxos feel beautiful. So, needing to make a new life for herself, Selene apprehensively turns to Stefan for help.

Yet the dark-hearted tycoon is nothing like the white knight she remembers! Seduced, bedded, and betrayed in a matter of days, Selene realizes it's not always better to be with the devil you know. She's sold her soul - and her heart - to the enemy!

She’s 22 going on 12

This was too silly for me to take seriously. The eyerolls started in the first scene, when she goes incognito in a nun outfit. Riiight. 🙄 Yes, she’s been sheltered, but for someone who supposedly had some college education, she behaves like a kid thinking her lemonade stand will make her a millionaire when she shows up at Stefan’s office to pitch her idea for a candle company based upon having whipped up three scented candles. Three. Scented. Candles. 🙄🙄 And then we’re supposed to believe this rich, powerful business man gives her cash on the spot because he thinks she has a good business idea? 🙄🙄🙄

There’s also the plot about why she needs to earn money, which gets her into TSTL territory. If you knew someone’s welfare depended upon getting quick funds and making an escape, would you really pause to play dress up, get drunk on champagne and throw yourself at the man who just loaned you money? If you’re Selene, you do this and more. It only gets worse from here.

I can only stomach cork brained innocents in my regency romance. In today’s world, a woman with an education should not be so embarrassingly naive. Also, to me, the narrator made 22 year Selene sound like she was in her 40s, which didn’t exactly sell things for me either.

Awesome Harlequin romance

This is the best of what this genre and publisher have to offer. If you’re a sucker for a good old fashioned Harlequin full of exotic locations, alpha males with intimacy issues, naive virgin heroines and tropes galore, this is for you. The writing is well done. There is some humor thrown in with a healthy dose of Harlequin angst, and the H and h are both pretty likable.
