Publisher's Summary

Sarai was a child of 10 years when she first met Abram. He appeared before her in her father's house, filthy from the desert, tired, and thirsty. But as the dirt of travel was washed from his body, the sight of him filled her heart. And when Abram promised Sarai to return in 10 years to take her for his wife, her fate was sealed.Abram kept his promise, and Sarai kept hers. They were wed and so began a lifetime together of both great joy and great peril for, with the blessing of their God who bestows on them new names, a great nation would be built around the core of their love.

What the Critics Say

"What Card does best: exploring human motives and relationships....This playfully speculative novel succeeds in bringing Sarah's oft overlooked character into vivid relief." (Publishers Weekly)

Entertaining, interesting and though provoking

I have been a fan of Orson Scott Card since I first stumbled upon Enders Game a couple of years ago. I think his characters are both interesting and thought provoking. Sarah is no different, though maybe even better.

My whole family listened to the book while driving on summer vacation. The kids did not want to get out of the car sometimes. Card has done a tremendous job of presenting an entertaining fictional story, while maintaining accuracy with biblical and other historical records. This is definitely a work of fiction but what an enjoyable way to gain some insight to the life of a biblical figure. We enjoyed going back to look at the biblical account to compare what parts of the story where created by the author and which had a basis in the bible. Card has done a very good job of being true to the biblical account while adding such rich detail (from his own imagination of course) that these ancient people come to life. We had many interesting family conversations about what life was like thousands of years ago and how these seemingly super-human people from the bible did what the bible says they did.

We can hardly wait for the other books in this series to be release on audio. We will listen to them as a family also.

Good Book, But a Bit Too Introspective

I liked imagining the many well-known scenes in the life of Abraham and Sarah in more depth. The story is well written, but it is a bit overly dramatic emotionally for my taste. The narrator gets a little breathy and is too slow of a reader. My wife enjoyed it a little more than I did.
