Publisher's Summary

The Sacketts are the unforgettable pioneer family created by master storyteller Louis L'Amour to bring to vivid life the spirit and adventure of the American frontier. The Sacketts are men and women who challenged the untamed wilderness with their dreams and their courage. From generation to generation they pushed ever westward with a restless, wandering urge, a kinship with the free, wild places and a fierce independence. The Sacketts always stood tall and, true to their strong family pride, they would unite to take on any and all challenges, no matter how overwhelming the odds. Each Sackett novel is a complete, exciting historical adventure, and read as a group, Louis L'Amour's The Sacketts form an epic story of the building of our mighty nation. No matter that Echo Sackett was young, and a woman, and had never been far from the valley. She was still a Sackett - sharp and smart and a better hunter than most of the men she knew. Like her bold ancestors, Echo couldn't ignore a challenge. A sure hand with a horse, a dead shot with a rifle, and fast with her wits, Echo traveled to the mountains of Tennessee, coming up against ruthless killers who'd stop at nothing to cheat her of her inheritance. There she'd prove once and for all that she could ride the river with the best.

Strong women are not a new idea

L'Amour is a master of understatement who manages to give us the feel of an era without cluttering his writing with dusty details. The Sacketts often seem larger than life, but they represent a kind of pioneer who surely must have existed in that time, before America was a network of highways and telephone lines. Echo's adventure might have been set in a modern environment, as she is the same type of individual as V.I. Warshawsky or Stephanie Plum, with the same courage and determination supported by genuine ability. Her story is well worth the hearing.

A Delightful Change Of Pace!

We really enjoyed this change of pace. A western all about a feminine warrior the age of a sophomore or junior in high school. Our school system would benefit greatly from young people like this Sackette! We won't go on except to say, "get your copy today and enjoy a delight-filled trip"!
