Publisher's summary

Filled with exciting tales of the frontier, the chronicle of the Sackett family is perhaps the crowning achievement of one of our greatest storytellers. In Ride the Dark Trail L'Amour tells the story of Logan Sackett, a cynical drifter who changes his ways to help a widow keep her land from falling into the wrong hands.

Logan Sackett was wild and rootless, riding west in search of easy living. Then he met Emily Talon, a fiery old widow who was even wilder than he was. Tall and lean, Em was determined to defend herself against the locals who were trying to steal her land.

Logan didn't want to get involved, until he found out that Em had been born a Sackett. Em was bucking overwhelming odds, but Logan wouldn't let her stand alone. For even the rebellious drifter knew that part of being a Sackett was backing up your family when they needed you.

Another part of the Sackett family tree heard from.

A story to move any reader. A drifting man not particular about which side of the law he's landed on this time, a lady of the frontier who's reached her silver years and not allowed to enjoy them, and a greedy, conniver who doesn't miss a trick to eliminate the elder woman to take the ranch she's defending. Finding that the drifter and the lady are relatives from the same hills of Tennessee, the lines drawn in the sand and the family pulls together the way we all wished our own would. One of my favorite Sackett books, this audio rendition brings it into a new sphere of enjoyment. The narrator gave a right on performance!

poor editing

Excellent story and terrific narration. The recording was obviously edited for time and the beginning of several sections were cut off. This didn't detract from the story but it was a little annoying.

Great story and Mr. Mann has the most variations of voices ever!

I listened to this four years ago, and found it once again amazing!! The narration was superb. His acting skills have given him the ability, along with his natural born talent, to pull off a whole narration of a multitude of characters, and none of the “voices” sounded alike….and all in character! Bravo to story and Mr. Mann!!

Best Narrator

There has been some pretty good narration of Louis L'amour books and some not so good ones. IMO this was the best!

Great authentic story!

I truly enjoyed the easy pace the reader of this story used because it matched my idea of how Logan Sackett would actually have talked telling his own story. Excellent story line keeping with the basic truth of how people like these would have lived during that era. Being born and raised in East Tennessee in the late 40's and 50's on very similar true stories from a family spread across Overton, Fentress and ones touching those I learned to love Louis L'Amour's story telling as he called himself a Troubadour. In my life experiences, and a lot of my kin, we all read his books when he used various writers names for different magazines, short stories, and fodder for various companies. A legend while he lived and we appreciate his legacy being carried on by his family. Our children are in their 50's and they all have L'Amour's books, cassette tapes, and DVD's, etc., and they got my wife and I (54 years married) listening to all L'Amour's stories on Audible like they do. We have trouble reading due to eye surgeries but our hearing is hanging in there for now. Great feeling to hear these stories we have read over and over during the years.

Sackets and Talons

The only thing better than a book with Sackets in it is one with both Sackets and Talons! The bad guys get more than they can chew with these boys and one old formidable Sacket lady

Best Western Stories

Louis l’Amour have some of the best western stories I’ve ever heard. The stories are clean. I am one you can listen to around children.
