Publisher's summary

After the treachery and slaughter they met during the raid on Glendalough, Thorgrim Night Wolf and his small band of surviving Northmen have returned to Vik-lo, where Thorgrim again sits as lord of the Viking longphort. But the Northmen are a restless lot, and soon they find themselves eager to put to sea. Loading weapons and supplies aboard the four longships under Thorgrim's command, they set out in search of the rich merchant ships that now ply Irish waters. But not all cargoes are the same, nor all merchant captains easy targets for the Norse raiders. Crossing wakes with a Frisian shipmaster who could be Thorgrim's equal in seamanship and cunning, the Northmen soon find themselves seeking vengeance even as they fight to keep from a watery grave.

loving this series

the Norseman Saga is a great series. It seems like many stories of Vikings do not cover Ireland that much.

Enjoyed the book.

So far I’ve been very happy with my purchases within this series. It’s a fun listen, and I will be starting the next book in the series today. In this book characters from previous books make an appearance who might not be expected.

loved it!!

I have read or listened to all the books in this series and enjoyed them thoroughly. If you like historical fiction from this period of time I think you'll like them too. The maritime and battle depictions are very realistic. The Narrator does a very good job with the accents and speaks in a very clear and distinguished voice. Good stuff!!!

Another great chapter of the Norsemen Saga.

The author's Mariner background really shines in this book. Another captivating novel. I can't wait for the next book!

MESMORIZING. CAN'T STOP LISTENING.

There isn't one bad book in the series, but Raiders Wake had me breathless with the descriptive visuals, long ships crashing into each other, white slavery. Wow. Well done, highly recommended!

Fantastic, wonderful story!!!

This is an awesome story. Often, several books into a series starts getting boring. But not with this series! Thank you, Nelson.

Chased a German for 11 hours.

That's it. That's all Thorgrim did here. This was a disappointing and unbearably boring addition to this adventure. It was forced and obvious. I pray the last two pick up what seemed to have been lost from the first few books.

Not as good as his previous books

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Way too much sailing information. Also, for some reason neither he nor his editors know what an adverb is. "Get up quick" instead of quickly. This is really, really basic grammar. So, I am surprised that he does this all the way through the book.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The mix of cultures and history of Ireland is the most interesting. The endless technical description of the sailing details is the most distracting, so much so, that the penultimate scene is robbed of much of its excitement by meandering descriptions of the nautical decisions of the pro- and ant- tagonists.

What does Shaun Grindell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A good read without the overly dramatic inflection reads some narrators do.

Do you think Raider’s Wake: A Novel of Viking Age Ireland needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, he left cliffhangers at the end, but please get let him get his elementary school grammar fixed and keep the story like the first novels....less sailing information.
