Publisher's Summary

A truckload of awards destined for Hollywood is hijacked by an escaped convict. To pass their time on the road together, the hijacker and trucker play a tape of mystery stories, but these three tales of revenge influence the driver to do one very crazy thing. In "One for the Road" by David Ice, the robbers of a liquor store have picked the wrong clerk to hold up.
In "A String of Pearls" by Scott Leslie, a spoiled little rich girl has finally run out of luck.
And in "Fate's Shadow" by Jonathan Lowe, an injured man plots revenge when the classmate who injured him twenty years ago suddenly surfaces as a celebrity.

What the Critics Say

"The three tales are well chosen and well read. Sound effects make them come alive. The story line allows comic relief to offset the mysteries....this innovative structure [is] enjoyable." (AudioFile)

Hollywood related mysteries with twists

Where does Oscar's Hijack rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Liked the unusual hybrid aspect of linking four stories with a fifth.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The truck driver sounded unimpressed by his hijacker, which was funny

What does Barrett Whitener bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Just so natural and comitted to becoming the characters, he's totally into setting the authors respective tones. Sound effects aren't intrusive and increase the effect. Nicely done.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The satire at the end was unexpected, but that's like the Oscar show itself, so it fit, and the twist was original so that's a great contrast to the more serious and chilling stories used to entertain the trucker and hijacker along the way.

Any additional comments?

Well balanced, it takes risks and pulls it off in spades in my opinion.
