A new hero rides out of the old west!
It's been many moons since I read a western, and this is a rip-roaring good one! I loved the stark, minimalist backdrop of the old west for this story. Even though it's a tale that could be set in practically any time period, the lack of populace and technology removed any potential distractions from a great story. It's just down to good vs. evil, and that's it. It very much reminded me of a Sergio Leone spaghetti western - I could easily see Nora as The Woman With No Name.
I enjoyed Mr. Miller's delivery and pacing in reading his own work. I'm relatively new to audio books, but in the dozen or so I've listened to so far, I've already encountered the narrator who draws more attention to him/herself, either though flaws or being overly-dramatic, than to the story.
If I were forced to come up with any negative, it would be that I felt the "women good, men bad" theme got a bit heavy handed at times. Not enough to harm the listen in any way, but the actions and bravery of this woman, and the bumbling ignorance of her male adversaries, speaks loud enough without it being verbalized. Just my opinion.
Very excited at the hint of a potential sequel. More Nora please!
