Publisher's summary

Recently divorced, 40-something single-mom, Lucy, is lonely, bored, and craving physical connection. So, when her trusted long-time married friend, Nancy, begs Lucy to sleep with her husband to save her marriage, Lucy goes for it. It's such a success, the two friends invent a town-wide underground barter system whereby Nancy's married girlfriends sub-contract Lucy's divorcee friends to sleep with their husbands so they don't have to as often. It's a win, win, win - for a while. Then it all goes to hell in a hand-basket.

Laugh-out-loud funny, emotionally provocative and at times racy, Nookietown is a story of risk-taking, marriage, honesty, and desire, and what one woman rationalizes in order to get what she wants.

Interesting storyline

Morals, ethics, justifications and rationalizations; woman groups of all kinds that get together; friendships that form, alliances built within the groups - group dynamics at work; people judging people; it's all in this story. Lucy starts the ball rolling by repeatedly stating that she just wants sex, not a relationship. Her friend, Gina offers her husband as a sex date partner at a group lunch. The ladies toss the idea back and forth as a concept that's not real having fun with it, then move on to another topic. (Except that Kitt was outraged by the ideas.) After lunch, Nancy approaches Lucy and asks if she's serious about it... and the story takes off. The repercussions and reputations impacted are expected. The serious flaw in this story is that repeatedly it's stated that what's done in your private life isn't relevant to your work. This is NOT true of teachers. I can only for sure speak for Texas, but private conduct (obviously outside your home but taking into consideration that it could be talked about outside of the home) must represent the school district as it can be witnessed by a student or parent at any time. That Lucy went into such a speech onstage at the end of the school year that would get her fired? In front of an entire audience of parents? When she was that close to tenure and pregnant? Highly unlikely. I'll agree that it made the story interesting.
Julia Duvall did a great job narrating.
