No Longer At Ease is the second book by Chinua Achebe that I have read. The most refreshing aspect of Achebe's wrutting is that he does not have the weight of hundreds of years of oppression influencing his story telling. This is an easy read and is as delightful as Things Fall Apart. Dive into Achebe's tales of African life and be amazed at its wonderful complexiity described in a simp!y wonderful story.
I would recommend this book however I am always thrown off by the narrator using an accent that comes off as Jamaican rather than West African when he reads the lines with pidgin english. I understand he can't be perfect but hmmm😅
I love this book read it several times, I was looking forward to listening to the story unfortunately the narrator's excruciating pronunciation was a huge distraction. Can I please suggest for future audiobooks get a narrator that is fluent in the language, it really does impact on the story. Based on my experience, I won't be listening to the other books in this trilogy, which is a shame.
It really wove together all the characters from 'Things fall apart" and "Arrow of God".
That Achebe wrote a lot about vulnerable male characters posturing as strong men with underlying mental health issues so long ago is just wow!
It's interesting to have read them before watching "American Gods" though.
