Publisher's summary

France, August 1944. In this alternate history WW2 adventure, American and British forces struggle to trap and destroy the still-potent German armies defending Normandy. But the Allies face another formidable obstacle of their own making: a seething rivalry between generals leads to a high-level disregard for orders that puts the campaign in the Falaise Pocket at risk of devastating failure - or spectacular success. That campaign unfolds through the eyes of two American brothers - one an idealistic pilot, the other a fatalistic tanker - as they plunge headlong into the confusion and indiscriminant slaughter of war.

When the Moons hit your eye...

If you could sum up Moon Above, Moon Below in three words, what would they be?

Action War Realistic. That's Amore!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Moon brothers. Well developed, placed in realistic World War 2 fighting.

What about Bill Fike’s performance did you like?

Bill Fike is great at distinguishing various characters with reasonable voices.

If you could take any character from Moon Above, Moon Below out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Half. We could crouch in the bottom of a foxhole eating C rations. Trading my Ham and Lima Beans for his Beans and Franks. We would wish we were back up above with dry feet!

Ham would have to throw in his carton of cigarettes to gain the coveted Lima Beans though. ROFLMAO!

Any additional comments?

I was impressed with the factual material that Mr. Grasso incorporated in the story. I read a lot about World War 2, these made the listen very interesting to me!

It seems there is discussion towards this being in the realm of Alternative History. It isn't Harry Turtledove or Man in the High Castle. There's a place for AH. But this to me, is excellent REALISTIC War action. Maybe "what if" would be accurate, but isn't that what any fiction is?

BE AWARE OF MANY "F" BOMBS AND OTHER BOUTS OF SWEARING. THESE ARE MEN IN BATTLEFIELD SITUATIONS OR "LOCKER ROOM" ONES, if you will... If language offends, you may want to steer clear.

It Drew Me In

The moment I started this book I loved it. I am heavily biased toward military fiction but I think even if you are not you will enjoy this action packed book. I strongly Identified with the characters and I thought the author did an excellent job with the attitudes and behaviors of the protagonists. A note about the voice acting I thought the actor did an excellent job using accents for each character. I was never confused about who was speaking I cant praise it enough, the voice acting enhanced the quality of this audio book a great deal.

An Enjoyable Listen

Overall, all I enjoyed the storyline of this novel. Especially the perspective of a fighter pilot in the air and a tank commander on the ground.

The fact they were brothers seemed a little contrived to me was not necessary for the plot of the story.

I assume it was to give a personal aspect to the novel.

British General Bernard Montgomery is portrayed as a snob who was at times too careful when fighting the main battle in this book.

But I do not know if this is a valid portrayal of him.

In my opinion, the narrator did an excellent job and that’s why I give a five star rating for his performance.

Decent war story

A good story if you like combat scenes and in depth military thinking. Also love how the author portrayed Monty as a sloth! Which in many respects is true but so many are afraid to speak this truth because of the positive image he left behind.
Worth a listen if you like WWII stories with a good amount of action

An Alternate WWII Action Packed Story

If you could sum up Moon Above, Moon Below in three words, what would they be?

Under Fire Brothers

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the story was constantly moving with only brief pauses to get the story being told and how you picture in your mind to get caught up with a semingly flawless transition back into the action.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite was the bombing of the building where a French Freedom Fighter was being interrogated.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were parts that made me laugh that normally involved one of the brothers, Sean, and his quick sarcastic wit.
