Publisher's Summary

John Self is addicted to life. Porn freak and jetsetter, a aficionado of wealth and women, Self is the shameless heir to a fast-food culture where money beats out an insistent invitation to futile self-gratification. Out in New York, mingling with the mighty, making a fortune but spending more, Self is embroiled in the corruption, the brutality, and the obscenity of the money conspiracy.

Critic Reviews

"Terribly, terminally funny; laughter in the dark, if ever I heard it." (The Guardian)
"This is my first Martin Amis...John Self, the narrator, a mega-rich yob who makes TV commercials, has rotten teeth too, beats up women and plays tennis chess, not tennis, with Martin Amis, He's also very, very funny. I'd better read another." (The Guardian)

Spot on performance.

This is a brilliantly performed narration of an enormously entertaining novel. Stephen Pacey gets the mid-Atlantic tone of John Self exactly as I'd hoped. Great value for money over 16 hours. Recommended.

Painfully funny and sad<br />

Well read, painfully funny at times and hideous observation of humanity at its worst. A little on the long-winded side but well worth it.

Money

This is the best performed audiobook I've listened to. Stephen Pacey captures the true essence of the protagonist John Self.
