What the Critics Say

"Picture Joseph Heller and Kurt Vonnegut collaborating on a Tinseltown version of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and you come halfway to grasping Coupland's brand of thoughtful, supremely funny storytelling." (Amazon.com)

zen? Hollywood zen lite?

This is a cute, humourous story, well worth the moderate download price for its entertainment value, but it's hardly the Zen inspired masterpiece the Amazon review quoted in the product info suggests. Neither is it up to par with other Coupland novels.

It's a tale of two hollywood types with strange childhoods grapling with "second half of life" identity issues. Coupland's humour, snappy prose, plus an added plot mystery make the story better than an average chick or lad lit identity crisis, and the characters do try to come to terms with the unpseaking universe, but don't expect heavy philosophy or a zen koan.
