Publisher's summary

Readers everywhere have fallen for New York Times best-selling author Deanna Raybourn's intrepid amateur sleuth and socialite, Lady Julia Grey. Not to mention her devastatingly handsome partner in crime, Nicholas Brisbane. Midsummer Night is the long-awaited novella of their wedding, a dashing - and potentially deadly - affair not to be missed....

Midsummer in Victorian England - an auspicious time for a wedding. Brisbane has taken charge of the music. Julia has, perhaps mistakenly, allowed her sisters to choose the dress. And Belmont Abbey is overflowing with guests awaiting the blessed day. What could go wrong? Combine the close-knit chaos of village life, pagan traditions bursting through staid Victorian conventions, and the congenial madness that tends to swirl around Lady Julia's family and you get an unforgettable wedding. But add in a dangerous past nemesis who has come to wish them not so well, and their day to remember just might take a fatal turn....

Don't miss a single tale in the Lady Julia Grey series - or Deanna Raybourn's latest standalone novel, A Spear of Summer Grass.

The wedding

A brief narrative of the long awaited wedding with the trials we know would somehow be there. No on to the next book.

Glad the story was finally told

I don't mind the wedding story was shorter. I'm just glad the story was finally told.

Good filler

Fun and short. Glad to hear more detail on their wedding day and for their relationship to finally sound like a healthy one. Their back and forth in the first few books was getting redundant.

Lots of wedding related fun in a novella

What a hoot! This novella opens with Lady Julia’s drunken letter to her niece; then segues into the story of Julia and Nicholas’ wedding. We get family shenanigans, Gypsy omens, a very bad dress, a kitchen fire, a jewel thief, a kidnapping, and an unconventional wedding celebration. And we get the intro to the next book, Dark Road to Darjeeling.
Archer does a very good job of narration.

Wedding novella

Setting: Sussex, England
Genre: romantic mystery

Lady Julia Grey, née March, is finally to wed Nicholas Brisbane at the family seat. However, all does not run smoothly down the aisle to wedded bliss.
This is a novella that stands between Silent on the Moor and Dark Road to Darjeeling. There are few new characters in the Lady Julia and Brisbane universe, but the established ones are consistent with previous appearances. The plot is tight and well-paced.
Ellen Archer gives a fine performance voicing these characters, never straying from the expression in previous novels.

Loved it.

Short and sweet but I enjoyed the interactions between Julia and Brisbane. Ellen Archer has a beautiful voice.

Great little novella.

This was a heartwarming, whimsical tale about the wedding of Ms. Julia Gray to our brave, somewhat gruff inquiry agent.
Once again Porsche steals the show as she saves the wedding from a complete lack of taste. Laughter and tears were shared by all.
Very enjoyable.

Great Addition To The Series

I am so thankful that even the novella's in this wonderful series are available on Audible - and narrated by the same talented performer! This novella opens up a bit after the events of Silent on the Moor - and covers the missing elements that initially soured my satisfaction with the end of that third book in the series. I am just genuinely thrilled that I didn't have to wait to start listening! The frame of the story serves as a letter to Julia's niece to provide words of wisdom on her upcoming nuptials - this gives some genuine humour to the opening and then fills in the details of Julia's wedding where so much went wrong!

Even for a brief novella, Raybourn manages to include more drama and romance than I expected. It's nice too, to see see the familiar characters return (tying nicely back to the second book as they return to Belmont Abbey), and it just a real joy to listen to this and it serves to nicely set up the fourth volume of the series, too!
