Engrossing, complicated story

I don't know what those wishy washy reviews are about. This book was totally absorbing. It's rather long so I found myself alternating between being very productive and sitting motionless waiting to see what was going to happen next. You've read the description and the plot does revolve around several characters' ways of dealing with grief. It's also about self discovery. The reading performance is wonderful. I especially like the children's voices. Erica James - a no brainier with book selection. I haven't read all but generally she delivers!

Harriet was a strong independent woman.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I liked the storyline and the main character, that's what got me stuck into the book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Love and Devotion?

The honesty of the children and their comments and impressions were priceless.

What does Jilly Bond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love the accent and she also has fantastic delivery in reading her characters.

Who was the most memorable character of Love and Devotion and why?

Harriet, as I said, a strong independent woman who took on her responsibilities inspite of the personal cost.

Escapism on paper

What did you like most about Love and Devotion?

Although some may say that this is a predictable 'chick lit' I found the characters and emotion of each believable and engaging. Each morning, as I sat on the bus, travelling to a dreary job, I lost myself in the world of Harriet, the children and Will. The sub-plot regarding the brothers and Harriet's sister was predictable but it was the situation that Harriet found herself in. As the book progressed she developed more and more. What started as an awful situation for her ended up being her 'saving grace'.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Will - he was down-to-earth, honest and caring.

Have you listened to any of Jilly Bond’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I am unsure if I have listened to any other of Jilly Bond's performances. If the narrator is good (which Jilly obviously is) I tend not to hear the narrator but hear the characters instead.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No - I enjoyed listening to an hour each day - I looked forward to the dreary bus journey knowing I had another instalment of Love and Devotion.

Any additional comments?

Great book to escape into. Narration is excellent and I loved most of the characters (found the Dad a little tedious).
