Critic reviews

“David Wood has done it again. Within seconds of opening the book, I was hooked. Intrigue, suspense, monsters, and treasure hunters. What more could you want? David's knocked it out of the park with this one!” (Nick Thacker, author of The Enigma Strain)

“A page-turning yarn blending high action, Biblical speculation, ancient secrets, and nasty creatures. Indiana Jones better watch his back!” (Jeremy Robinson, author of SecondWorld)

“Dane and Bones.... Together they're unstoppable. Rip roaring action from start to finish. Wit and humor throughout. Just one question - how soon until the next one? Because I can't wait.” (Graham Brown, author of Shadows of the Midnight Sun)

good reads

I liked the story. But I don't like how the story went from diving for treasure to hunting monsters

Short but fun!

Bones is in his element in the adventure when the treasure hunting pair find themselves on the hunt for a famous cryptid! Short but fun adventure and great audio narration!

The story kept me hooked.

Some of the dialogue was pretty poorly written. But, the story caught my interest from the beginning and kept it. I liked the narrator. I would definitely be interested in listening to the other Dane Maddock books.

Missed the mark for me.

I am a huge Dane and Bones fan, so I was quite disappointed in this edition.
I felt like the back story of the artifacts, the source or origin of their mystical powers, how the prehistoric monster was guided to guard the treasure generation after generation, and especially the secret society and their motivations were almost completely overlooked.
I read this series for what it is, a fun predictable adventure series with familiar characters who always prevail, and I don't except a ton of depth from each book, but I feel like this one really missed the mark for me and only left me vaguely aware of what was really going on.

I actually enjoyed the character of Grizzly and although I haven't encountered him in any of the other books, I hope he pops up again. He was the perfect level of "douche" and made me laugh.

Great series

This book had new characters which was great. But tied in the next part of what is going on. I can wait to listen!
10/10 recommend.

I got some of this series to review- this being 1. But I have purchased books in this series to find out what happens. Really good series!

Action and Adventure - Dane and Bones At It Again

Dane and Maddock do it again - this time they take on an unlikely foe.  With an addition of a journalist and an eccentric cryptozoologist, they set off to find out the origins of some of the oldest mysteries.

Pretty much any time I see a new book out by David Wood I want to jump on it right away - he has this way of writing these unbelievable stories but making them still seem realistic and enjoyable all at the same time.  The characters of Dane and Bones are two of my favorites.  They work so well together and make each book different in some way.  All of the stories I've read in this series have been enjoyable high-action adventure books with a lot of history thrown in.  There are a lot of mysteries out there to solve and I hope that Wood continues to dive into them.

The main premise of dragging Dane and Bones out was to find the lost treasure related to a sunk German U-Boat in the Irish Sea - what they find while looking for it spins them into another crazy monster hunt.  It's pretty obvious by the title of the book and even the image what they think they've found - but I won't ruin it here.

If you're thinking about picking up Loch - just know that you're in for an enjoyable, action-packed adventure book with a great cast of characters that will leave no rock unturned to find what they set off for. Loch is yet another winner from Wood and one that I won't forget for time to come.

I was voluntarily provided with a free copy of this book. It has not affected my review in any way. If you enjoyed this review, please vote for it! Every vote helps.

Fun listen

This was the first book of the series that I listened to but the author was able to make it understandable, so even though it’s book 9 it can be read as a standalone novel. I thought the adventure was interesting and fun… I really like Cryptids, so maybe that had something to do with it. I saw a lot of negative comments about the narration but I thought the narrator did a pretty good job.

Overall I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Another Fun Take on Myth and Legends

What do a German U-Boat, The Loch Ness Monster and Irish Mythology have in common ... nothing unless you are Dane Maddock. So ... ignore all of the anachronisms and errors and just enjoy the conspiracy (with a side of drama that is still a bit ham fisted but mercifully not the center of the story). Maddock and "Bones" are on another treasure hunt and stuff immediately starts to happen as they team up with a famed (and painfully arrogant) cryptid hunter. Stir in a babe in distress and you have the standard tropes here ... if they is not your bag, move along ...

I was given this free advance listener copy (ALC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
