Beautiful and moving.

I loved the story, the characters and the way it moved me.
I can’t remember the last time a novel made me cry, but also smile. I can’t wait fir Iona Grey’s next novel.

First Class

The story and the characters where completely believable. I don't usually like it when the story is split into different timelines, but this one really works. The author has very cleverly entwined similarities between the two sets of couples from the different eras without it appearing contrived in any way. At the same time highlighting the enormous differences of the times. It is clearly a well researched book, I only know this because my own mother is 93 and so I have her first hand knowledge of the forties.

The narrator is excellent. If there was an award for narration then Avita Jay should win hands down. She portrayed the characters brilliantly and had the pace of the book, to my mind, just right. Okay, so you might not like her interpretation of an American accent, but somehow even that didn't grate in her hands! The character remained credible.

If you enjoy a story with a bit of mystery which keeps you guessing to the end, you won't be disappointed. At times the story is gentle and at others disturbing. There is love, drama, history, morality and sentiment depicted here and a vein of truth running through it all. It is one of the finest reads (listens!) I've had for a long time.
