Bleh! Boring

Ugh! I am glad that’s over. I did not enjoy this book at all.

I finished it anyways because it was short and because even though the story bored me, I liked the idea of a story set in Montreal (where I live) and I could still enjoy that part of it; and I did… with a few exceptions:

1- We (Montrealers) don’t say “the subway system” we say “the metro” whether we are French or English – it’s “the metro”. The author lived in Montreal briefly according to her bio, so I’m surprised she didn’t know that. Perhaps it was her editor who changed it.

2- There are no 3AM flights out of Montreal to anywhere. Our airport is practically in the middle of a residential neighbourhood so we have lots of noise restrictions in place. Generally that means no take-offs or landings between midnight ish and 6AM ish. I’m not 100% sure about the times, but I am 100% that 3AM is verboten. Perhaps I read it wrong? Maybe it was just a glimpse of where she happened to be at 3AM… “On a flight to Rome” instead of “On a 3AM flight to Rome”. Whatever, I’m not going to go back to check!!!

3- I hated the way the narrator kept pronouncing “RUE” (street in French) as “ROO”.

I found this book intriguing but a downer on the whole. I thought it was mysterious, that pulled me in but the more I listened the more depressing I found it. Maybe it was just me. I don't like ot write negative reviews. So I will say the writer kept me involved.
