Publisher's summary

Ethan and Derek Taggart: they're the men of Gemini, and when it comes to sheet-scorching undercover work, nobody does it better. The only one they answer to is big brother Danny - that is, until the right women come along to grab the reins and crack the whip as hard as the Taggart men like it...

Security is Derek Taggart's game, and he plays it straight - no margin for error, no time to fool around... except with one hot little number who changes everything. He takes her home when she needs a ride - one she'll never forget. The problem is Derek can't forget her, a total about face for a guy who keeps his enemies closer than his lovers. Then, he finds out the sexy dynamo is Alyssa Miles, notorious party girl and darling of the gossip rags.

It's time to walk away and never look back, which would be a hell of a lot easier if his agency didn't desperately need the high-profile gig her family's offering: a minor detail that consists mainly of Derek watching Alyssa 24/7. Keeping an eagle eye on every inch of Alyssa's nubile body isn't exactly a hardship - the problem is keeping his hands off and his brain on when things go dangerously wrong...

Another solid effort

After reading Caught (the first book in the Gemini series), I had high hopes for the 2nd installment of this series. I was not disappointed. Again, the author wrote a solid story, mixing a steamy romance with a good detective mystery involving family business gone awry all woven together in a satisfying read (or "listen"). Ms. Alden writes very well. So many e-books and/or self-published authors write like middle-schoolers. Whenever I come across a book like that, it makes me want to scream. I'm not saying that this is the great American novel, but it's just nice to listen to an audiobook that doesn't make me cringe with with all its editorial errors, juvenile dialogue and melodramatic angst.

The characters were well developed; I was invested in their HEA. I especially like Alyssa because even though she had great vulnerability, she was also very strong (even though it took a while for that to come out in the story).

Once again, though, I do not care for the narrator. If the guys in these stories are supposed to be so macho, the narrator's voice needs to sound much more masculine. This narrator is more suited to narrate children's books. And he totally ruined Alyssa's voice for me. It's a good thing I liked her character so much. That helped me overcome the horrible voice he used for her.

Overall, a solid 4-star book, well worth your credit.

On a side note, I am wondering what has happened to Audible's categories?? People who like romance novels would miss this series entirely because it is listed as detective story. It seems like over the past few months, Audible has revised their category descriptions. It's been very frustrating for me. I'm just thankful that I stumbled upon this series. I hope Audible does something to straighten out their flakey category issues soon.
