Twelve-year-old Alf Smith trembled with excitement when the four cowboys rode past him as he walked home from school. This was Illinois farming country and he had never seen a real cowboy. The big Mexican saddles, the tall boots with the jingling spurs, and the pistols strapped on their sides, they were just like the Texas cowboys he had read about in books and newspapers.

Alf Smith
This is a great book. Alfs parents was killed when he was young. After he got older he went looking for the ones who did it. I love books with this type of storyline. This was a very interesting hunt. I highly recommend this book. alf meets and makes good friends along the way and learns a lot. He learns real quick how to take care of himself.
