Publisher's summary

Father Tim and Cynthia have been at home in Mitford for three years since returning from Whitecap Island.

In the little town that's home-away-from-home to millions of readers, life hums along as usual. Dooley looks toward his career as a vet; Joe Ivey and Fancy Skinner fight a haircut price war that takes no prisoners; and Percy steps out on a limb with a risky new menu item at the Main Street Grill.

Though Father Tim dislikes change, he dislikes retirement even more. As he and Cynthia gear up for a year-long ministry across the state line, a series of events sends shock waves through his faith, and the whole town of Mitford.

In her seventh novel in the best-selling Mitford Years series, Jan Karon delivers surprises of every kind, including the return of the man in the attic and an ending that no one in Mitford will ever forget.

static-y

The were parts that were very static-y. Otherwise, as usual, a very good story and reading.

Technical difficulties

Love the Mitford\Father Tim books. This is a reread. Narrator very good. However, in every book in the series that I have listened to,(7), the end of sentences are cut off, leaving you to guess at what was said. At times it seems as if more then a word or 2 are gone, as the next bit does not seem to connect with the last bit. In this book, there are sections the are so crackly, they are hard to understand. For the price, it would seem that they could correct these errors.

John McDonough's performance is spectacular!

Jan Karon explores another element of Father Tim. She peels back another layer of this endearing character and we get a glimpse of how he deals with tragedies. Karon and McDonough make you feel like you're having a personal conversation with Father Tim. Superb!

Wonderful and Amazing Story!! Super!!

made me cry several times. Jan is a wonderful Author. I wonder at times if this whole story is about her, her faith in Christ Jesus and if her real name is Cynthia!! Thank you for writing another great part of this story about Jan Karon!!!

The continuing of the best....

The author and narrator have done it again; together they are seamless and the story is gripping and fully fleshed out. A+++.

Quality narration and content. Sound quality fails in last 1/3

Having listened to about 800 Audible offerings, I’ve grown accustomed to the flawless recordings. Something went wrong in this recording. At one point, I heard, “this is the end of disc 12.” 😳 Later, there was a distinct change in the sound quality.

Otherwise, John McDonough and Jan Karon deliver with perfection as always. Sometimes I almost am convinced that John McDonough IS Father Timothy Kavanaugh.

Great reading of a new classic

I've been a long time admirer of Jan Karon's Mitford series. I've read them several times. I am introducing the recorded versions to my husband who is enjoying them as much as I. We thoroughly enjoy the narration of John McDonough, especially when he sings the hymns and uses Father Tim's pulpit voice. These recordings bring a whole new dimension to the stories.
