Publisher's summary

Finding that desecrated body was only the beginning....

For Ashley and her three friends, it was supposed to be an adventure-filled weekend. A chance to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of city life and experience the peaceful tranquility of nature.

But when they ventured into those woods, their trip turned into a horror far beyond what they could have ever imagined.

Because these four friends have wandered into the territory of the violent, grotesque Webb family. A group of psychopaths who have a taste for human meat. And they are hungry!

Ashley and her friends must face this evil head on, and, worse, discover the shocking secret behind the family's existence....

In the vein of The Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Wrong Turn - Horror in the Woods will leave you exhausted and drained. A brutal, violent tale that hurtles along at break-neck pace - one that horror fans should not miss!

Supernatural Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Wow this was truly a horror in the woods. Not a huge fan of overly graphic horror, which this is very graphic, but so well done it creeped out someone who rarely gets creeped out. Which is not something I say often. At first I was expecting this to be just the typical inbred rednecks in the woods story. Not at all. Definitely has a Texas Chainsaw Massacre feel. Can’t wait to see more from this author.

Hills did a fantastic job and is definitely jumped to the top of my list for narrators. His voice of Henry was so great I could picture him perfectly in my mind.

Excellent

The best horror is when the author is willing to push the limit
Not your typical backwoods cannibals the grandpa character was great I would love to see a novel on his backstory
If you like extreme gore the family dinner scene was one of the best I’ve come across
Hannibal’s narration was excellent and fits horror very well highly recommended

Very graphic, good story, great narration

The title pretty much sums it up. The story was very interesting, although a bit graphic for my taste. It wasn't at the torture porn level, but it was close. Horror is one of my main genres, but I don't enjoy reading about atrocity, if you know what I mean. There is a difference.

That said, the story here was quite good, and I am a big fan of horror set in the woods. When I saw this book it just seemed like that quintessential tale of teenagers trapped in the woods with something bad, and in fact it was. So with the exception of the extreme violence (which I skipped through, mostly), I would say I got what I wanted.

One more thing: the narration is EXCELLENT. I want this guy to narrate my own book. Five stars, well earned!

Graphic.

When two couples decide to go camping in the woods, they expect to rough it a bit. But they don't expect to come across a corpse in the woods which has been mutilated and is grotesque. They don't expect that same corpse to actually not be dead!!! They definitely don't expect the corpse to attack them when they try to help it. With that discovery, one of the men tells them the story of the Webb family. They are supposedly cannibals and live in the woods. Not believing him, despite what they have seen, the couples stumble upon an abandoned shack. What follows is a sick and twisted tale!!!

I knew going in that this would be gory and grotesque, but I didn't think it would be this bad!! It was quite hard to stomach and at times I didn't want to continue, but the overall story was compelling enough to make me want to find out what happens. I just kind of tuned out when the disturbing things was happening!!

Anyway, this was a b-movie type of tale!! Two couples in an out of the way wooded area, with a cannibalistic family after them, but with a twist!! There is also Grandfather to contend with. The plot was fast paced and intense, it was disturbingly icky but overall a good read. I enjoyed the twists and some of the characters. I don't think I'd revisit this though because it's slightly too graphic for my tastes.

Han Hills did a good job with this. He read it well and was easy to listen to. He was super creepy for the thing in the basement and for Grandfather!! I enjoyed his performance.

Delightfully Gruesome!

Well, that was a story that I will not soon forget! It was also the case that it took me by surprise, which is an unusual experience for me in this genre. Four friends, one new to the group, set off on a hiking adventure to cement their bond. Little do they know what terrors lay in wait for them.

This story had a superb cast of characters who grew and changed, my opinions of them ever vacillating. I won't share any more plot for fear of spoilers, but I will say that one character proves to be so satisfyingly badass that the book is worth a listen just for that. Lee Mountford weaves a seriously gruesome tale that is original, complex and one hell of a ride. Han Hills delivers one of the best performances I have ever heard on Audible! I will definitely be seeking out more books narrated by him. I would recommend this book to any serious fans of horror who aren't sensitive to long descriptions of gore. 10/10

Good (but gory) story from a new storyteller

A good (but gory) story from a new storyteller in the horror scene.

As I've mentioned in other reviews -- horror isn't always my thing but sometimes a story just sounds so good or so "B-Movie bad"-good that I have to read it. This was the latter. It sounded like a movie that you shouldn't watch but you end up getting sucked into because it was really good.

"For Ashley and her three friends, it was supposed to be an adventure-filled weekend. A chance to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of city life and experience the peaceful tranquility of nature. The biggest takeaway from this book was that it was extremely gory. Like almost too much so. I don't mind a little blood and guts but good lord does Mountford really god almost overboard with it here. It was a little too graphic for my tastes, but at the same time, I'm glad that I finished it.

Overall, a graphic tale with some nice twists and turns in it. A good (but gory) story from a new storyteller in the horror scene.

This was the first audiobook I've listened to by Han Hills and I thought that he did a really nice job. A new narrator, especially for a horror novel is always a little scary to me, but Hills did a great job.

finger licking good

Ashley and her friends go into the woods for a fun weekend get away, but what they find when they stumble onto a ravaged human body kicks off a series of events that will have you to water at the mouth.

a stomach turning story of self confidence and growing up. this blood soaked novel is filled to the brim with gore, violence and bodies.

a cross between the Sawyer family (texas chainsaw) and the creatures from wrong turn, the Webb family will have you reaching for a barf bag and hiding under the covers. The most depraved and disgusting group of villains I've ever read about in the best way.

time to set the dinner table because this book is a mouthful.
