Publisher's summary

Sixteen-year-old Diamond "Ray-Ray" Jenkins has it made in the shade, until one wrong move by her parents turns their lives upside down. Their secret of taking from the wrong street King in the Trap, Damien Orlando, has now put her in peril. The death of her parents signals an end to Diamond's semi-perfect life, putting her in the hands of evil. Her only salvation is to learn the game, and to put her trust in a kid wearing a hoodie. Trigga has been a survivor and a killer in the streets of Atlanta for 16 years, after witnessing the murder of his parents. With his heart set on vengeance, he finds his destiny as a misfit and works his way through the ranks of Damien Orlando's crime syndicate. Once he's forced to snatch up a girl as hard as diamonds, his world changes drastically. It's up to him to use the plan of payback in the form of a simple motto: E.N.G.A (Every N**** Gotta Agenda). Trigga will have to use it to save them both. With his boy Big Jake, along with Gina and Ray-Ray forming their own family, Dame and every goon in his circle are targets. Chaos is coming, and Dame's most trusted are about to bring him pain and death.

Hood Misfits - We all have our own agenda

I liked this book and was real into it. I loved the characters and their connections according to their back stories and why they ended up where they were at. There are characters you want to see die and characters that you really feel close to. To me the most effective character was Trigga who was a menace that put fear in you cause he would kill you in the blink of an eye, but throughout the story I felt close to him. I learned that LOYALTY is only given to those who have proven themselves loyal, and at the blink of an eye that loyalty can turn into hatred. My favorite character would definately be Gina. I can see why RaeRae aka Diamond would become attached to this character like she did. Dame was a beast and oh so raw and controlling but so was Trigga when it came to controlling the important things that were planned. The sexual content and brutality was well written and had me clenching my teeth and breathing hard like OH NO, OH NO! I loved the Narrators they were perfect. All in all this book was a good one and I will be ready for the next volume.

What made the experience of listening to Hood Misfits Volume 1 the most enjoyable?

Frankly... Looking for the plot... The story seems like a nice collection of thoughts and events in the life of a Pimp... The story kept my attention but never seemed to go anywhere, and at the end, more of the same... BUT, with that said, I will listen to volume 2 when available, as an effort to validate the time spent listening to volume 1.

What did you like best about this story?

Wondering who was going to break first, Ray-Ray or Orlando...

Who was the most memorable character of Hood Misfits Volume 1 and why?

Gina... She was a scared, innocent, loving, and cunning soldier that everyone overlooked and under estimated.

Any additional comments?

Overall the characters in the story were interesting and everyone will find a character or two to pull for...

Liked the story but...

The flow of this story was good. There was a lot of action and some plot twists. The only issue I had was the female main characters age. *Some detail's to follow may spoil* I wish she would have been made at least 18 for some of the things that went down. I get that was the point, and added to the brutality of what she endured but savior or not, the romance and lust developing between her the male main is not okay. She is still a kid and he is not. This story is written as though its cool for a twenty something to be sexually and romantically involved with a 16 year old. That's the feeling I left with. I feel like it would have been better for his character to be more of a pissed off big brother than potential romantic partner.

One of the Best Urban Books...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Learn from others mistakes! Understand what they are going through and count your blessings that you don't have to live in a world like this. It helps you appreciate your own life. The authors took time to define its characters to make them live and come to life. The narrators were especially important to the story because without their voice it would be most difficult to appreciate the character's personality, demeanor, etc.

I was most impressed with the narrator James Edward Shippy. He really played the part of Trigger which made me come to adore the character. Shippy literally brought Trigger to life and made you feel like he was real.

With the exception of Marc Damon Johnson, I can't see any other narrator portraying this character in this manner. Way to Go Shippy - you did your thing!!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Trigger! He was so cool, down to earth, kept it real and didn't allow distractions to get in his way. His character is level headed and he shows true respect, empathy and genuine fellow feeling for those he was trying to protect. He was the man that held it down and knew how to navigate danger and used his creative wits to get himself out of hot water when he unexpectedly walked into it!

Which scene was your favorite?

When they took down Damien's empire.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

SPOILER ALERT: Yes, I was really moved at the end of the book when everyone was reunited and no lives were actually lost.

Any additional comments?

The only reason why I downloaded this book and considered it as an option is because the title reads "Carl Weber presents". Since I've listened to ALL of Carl's audio books, I thought this one had to be good as well. He did not disappoint! Although graphic at times, the book was excellent and it held my attention.

There was NEVER a dull listening moment because just when things seemed to calm down in one scene another quickly cropped up.I can't believe how mean our streets can be. Better to read about it than have to live it. These stories are no doubt teaching moments for our youngsters on how NOT to get caught up in this lifestyle.

Great Read!

What did you love best about Hood Misfits Volume 1?

Trigger is a great leader. He led Diamond and the rest of the team to freedom, albeit, bloody.

What did you like best about this story?

It was well written and paid attention to detail.

What does Paula Jai Parker and James Edward Shippy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved the fact they changed their voices to portray each character. Truly enjoyed Shippy's voice.

If you could take any character from Hood Misfits Volume 1 out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Trigga. I'd like to pick his brain.

Any additional comments?

What disappointed you about Hood Misfits Volume 1?

The story line was confusing, lacked character development and suspense. I assumed since Carl Weber's name was attached to it, it would be a great read. Wrong! At some parts, it seemed as if I was reading an erotica horror story, very gruesome.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The voice overs did a great job.
