Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Cheyenne McCray returns to steamy romantic suspense with a high-octane thriller about a woman running from a Mexican cartel and the man determined to protect her.

Danger....

Tori Cox, a talented and sought after musician, heads back to her roots in a small southwest town in Arizona as she flees an abusive relationship. When she arrives in Bisbee, she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time - and witnesses the execution of a federal agent by none other than the son of El Demonio, the head of the Jimenez Cartel. Tori and everyone she loves is now in danger as the cartel comes after her before she can testify.

Desire....

Landon Walker, a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security, rescues Tori when he sees the beautiful woman running from members of one of the most ruthless cartels in the world. He sets out to protect her, but soon protecting her isn't enough. The fire between them makes him want her in a way that he's never wanted another woman, despite his wounded heart.

Death....

Diego Montego Jimenez will do everything in his power to kill the young American woman who threatens his business and family. No one lives to testify against the Jimenez Cartel. Landon isn't about to let the cartel get hold of Tori. He'll go to the ends of the Earth and back to protect her - and show her he's never letting her go.

HOT, Steamy, Lawman.. Oh Landon....

This was a first for me for the author, really enjoyable.
I floved the narration. All the character was different in a good way. I didn’t forget who was in the driver seat so to speak. Just saying gruff when it counted! Hey your thinking it… this is romance. Lol
Tori is one heck of a women. Not a weepy one thank goodness. She had a lot thrown at her in this book and she didn’t break not once, well not in the omg freaking out kind of way. She kept on keeping on. I really liked that not only does she see something terrible but she is running from trouble too.
Not me.. I would have totally been the blubbering mess in the corner!

She really is a perfect match for our boy Landon.
Landon, oh Landon, how honorable and manly is that a characteristic? If it isn’t it should be.
He does have a lot on him his mind. I wouldn’t have blamed him one bit for not have a little melt down of his own you know. The dude is bad a..s..s..

Ok it has to be said Tori’s ex big douche… b… a… g… Freaking, big wimp. I was yelling ‘REALLY’ my kids thought I was nuts!
The connection between Tori and Landon is off the charts it’s no wonder they can’t keep their hands to them self’s.
Oh also love the action, you don’t expect what happens. This was a great read.

Here are some of my favorite quotes.

“You will die if you tell her the truth. If you don’t tell her, she will die.” - The old women’s words stuck with me throughout the story so I thought I would mention it.

“Just too make sure I am safe.” – Oh Tori who you playing we know you wanted some. Lol

“Running for your life can sure put a damper on thing.” – Really? Cause I thought they were doing pretty good even with all the running.

Hidden prey

Any additional comments?

It had all the right elements and flowed nicely.. Both the main characters were likable and several characters were introduced that I think would make great heroes. Looking forward to more in this series.

Amazing story! Full of suspense and romance!

I really enjoyed listening to this story. At the beginning I had some problems with the narrator interpreting the female characters but he does a very good job and he uses a wide array of inflections and voices to identify all the characters. And after a little while I enjoyed his performance. The story grabbed my attention since the very first word and it was a very satisfying experience.

An excellent story that keeps you wondering what will happen next. The thing is, I could see this happening. Someone seeing something they shouldn't have and their life turning on a dime. The couple are great together the pages sizzle with their chemistry. Definitely for a mature audience.

Paul Woodson did an incredible job narrating overall.

Great series start

This the first book in the Deadly Intent series. After Tori Cox witnesses the murder of an undercover DHS agent, she becomes the focus of a manhunt by the Jimenez cartel. Running into another agent, Landon Walker, saves her life. Landon stays by her side in trying to outrun the cartel who seems to have insider information on her whereabouts.

I loved all the action in this one: running, explosions, gun battles, and not-so-safe houses. The forced proximity and high stress situations bring Landon & Tori together quickly and I enjoyed the way that played out.

I truly enjoyed the ending and the HEA McCray gave these two. They deserved it. I’m looking forward to Dylan’s book, No Mercy.

Narration:
Paul Woodson did a good job here. Voices, accents, and all the emotions. It was an enjoyable listen.
