Publisher's summary

Three romantic rivals in one crowded house equals plenty of room for jealousy in this surprising and heartwarming story from New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand.

Laurel Thorpe, Belinda Rowe, and Scarlett Oliver share only two things; a love for the man they all married, Deacon Thorpe—a celebrity chef with an insatiable appetite for life—and a passionate dislike of one another. All three are remarkable, spirited women, but they couldn't be more different. Laurel: Deacon's high school sweetheart and an effortlessly beautiful social worker; Belinda: a high-maintenance Hollywood diva; and Scarlett: a sexy southern belle floating by on her family money and her fabulous looks. They've established a delicate understanding over the years—they avoid each other at all costs.

But their fragile detente threatens to come crashing down after Deacon's tragic death on his favorite place on earth: a ramshackle Nantucket summer cottage. Deacon's final wish was for his makeshift family to assemble on his beloved Nantucket to say good-bye. Begrudgingly, Laurel, Belinda, and Scarlett gather on the island as once again, as in each of their marriages, they're left to pick up Deacon's mess. Now they're trapped in the crowded cottage where they all made their own memories—a house that they now share in more ways than one—along with the children they raised with Deacon, and his best friend. Laurel, Belinda, and Scarlett each had an unbreakable bond with Deacon—and they all have secrets to hide.

Before the weekend is over, there are enough accusations, lies, tears, and drama to turn even the best of friends—let alone three women who married the same man—into adversaries. As his unlikely family says good-bye to the man who brought them together—for better or worse—will they be able to put aside their differences long enough to raise a glass in Deacon's honor?

Adultery Overload

Every. Single. One. is cheating. It becomes a bit ridiculous and makes them unsympathetic characters. There are better summer novels out there.

About as good as a Lifetime Movie

Any additional comments?

Meh, I could have done without this book. It felt very formulaic and 2-dimensional: take x-number of characters and explain how their lives overlap, go back and forth in time, etc. I found it very hard to connect with any of the characters, except maybe Chef Deacon the one who dies in the second chapter and who which the whole plot revolves around. If you can handle names like "Beau Tanner" and "Deacon Thorpe" and spending time with 3 women who were married to the same man under one roof, then this book is for you.

Loved it❣

This was an amazing book! Laurel, Belinda and Scarlett, all wives of chef Deacon Thorp shared one man but each led a different life with him. Each character in this story is served up like a multi course meal for us. I loved this book and really enjoyed the narration as well! Elin you keep me entertained❣

Another good one from EH!

Where does Here's to Us rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I always love to listen to Elin Hilderbrand's books. This one grabbed my attention as soon as it started and held it the whole book. I'd say this is in my top 10 and I usually go through 2 books a week.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the differences between the three women (wives) and how they interacted with each other.

What does Erin Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings emotion and each character has their own unique voice.

If you could take any character from Here's to Us out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Probably Belinda. She just seemed like fun.

Sweet

A nice story that feels good even tho it centres around a death. Very descriptive characters that are believable and relatable. I enjoyed the side stories of each individual relationship and the narrator did an excellent job.

love Elin's books.

I love Elin's books. I just hate that someone always has to die!! Her storytelling wraps you up in the world of Nantucket.

Not enough happened...

Maybe it's me and I get easily bored, but this book did bore me. There was not nearly enough happening and certainly not enough exciting things happening to keep my attention. I found myself drifting into making shopping lists between the desire to slap the characters and tell them to grow up already. Still, I did finish the book and even went back to write down a couple of the recipes, but I just have issues with adults acting like spoiled children. The most interesting part of this is while I normally stop before writing a review to make sure I don't reveal any spoilers, there aren't any here to be concerned about. If you want a beach read that won't require use of many brain cells, you might like it.

Slow story, but good characters

Overall I liked this book, my main reason for writing is one annoying point. The narrator keeps pronouncing the New York neighborhood of StuyTown as "Stewie town, when it is really pronounced "stye" town (rhymes with eye). I'm not sure how that got past editors or anyone who ever lived in New York!
