Publisher's summary

Masterful, best-selling horror novelist John Saul’s thriller of a small town trapped by the terrible tragedies of the past…

The day that the iron doors of the old mill in Westover, Massachusetts, closed forever is a day that still haunts the sleepy town’s residents. On that fateful day 100 years ago, 11 people died in a fearsome fire, and since then, no one has dared to revisit the mill or the dark secrets locked inside it.

Now, a member of the once-powerful Sturgess family has aspirations to reopen the mill. Little does Philip Sturgess know that by unlocking the padlock he is also unlocking horrible secrets from the past. There are forces at work that will do their best to see the mill doors stay tightly closed. But as Philip presses forward with his plans, the townspeople will be forced to face the terrible vengeance that waits in the darkest corners of the abandoned mill.

Mediocre...across the board

This book is mediocre in every way. The characters are without nuance and completely two dimensional. Every good guy is completely good and bad guy, completely bad. The narrator, while adequate, becomes grating when performing the parts of the teenage girls, especially the character of Beth. The story itself was okay. I made it through the entire book, though never listening with bated breath. I can't recommend this book but, at the price I paid, it wasn't a complete rip-off.

Absolutely terrific story! Narrator was phenomenal

The narrator of this story was fantastic. He absolutely made this story come alive. His characterizations with his voice was one of the best I have heard yet! John Saul is truly a gifted novelist and this is one of his best novels ever!

The real villain is the mother

The mother in this book is so incredibly selfish and unlikable that it's hard to get through the rest of the book

I loved it!

Luke Daniels did an excellent job with narrating this book. I listen to these books when I am in my car and with Hellfire I found myself looking forward to driving so I can find out what happens next. This was John Saul at his finest. I found myself grieving over some of the characters and had to remind myself this was John Saul and there is never a happy ending. Looking forward to my nest book.

Enthralling

The best part was when Beth died. I enjoyed the story as a whole but Beths character made me wince every time she spoke. Her weak and helpless demeanor was extremely irritating! YesTracy was a demon but it was expected of a rich brat. Good read

WoW....What a twist & turn

This is my 4th book by John in a week now & AGAIN, I was glad I used a credit!!
Great story & very well developed characters!! Easy to live some & dislike others.
A story of love, family, greed, revenge, forgiveness, death and WOW WHAT AN ENDING 🤔🥺

5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!

Narrator was great especially with old lady voices and spoiled brat voices🤣😂

Onto the next John Saul book.
I just discovered him this week and I'm going through his books here like crazy lol🤣😂

Twists and Turns

Just when you think the story is headed in one direction, it vears off down a different path. I did not see the ending coming the way it played out, including the epilogue. Classic John Saul work. He has quite the imagination!

HellFire by John Saul

I absolutely loved everything about this book. I love John Saul. A huge fan for twenty plus years.
The storyline was fantastic, but what totally sold me was the narration. It was phenomenal. Everyone had their own voice, & accent.
BlackCreek Crossing is another one of Johns' books. Excellent narration too.

I love this book

I read this book as a teenager and was very pleased with revisiting it as an adult. The narrator is a little dull but the story made up for it.
