Publisher's summary

In a country village, a family of New Yorkers encounters a chilling ancient rite

After watching his asthmatic daughter suffer in the foul city air, Theodore Constantine decides to get back to the land. When he and his wife search New England for the perfect nineteenth-century home, they find no township more charming, no countryside more idyllic than the farming village of Cornwall Coombe. Here they begin a new life: simple, pure, close to nature - and ultimately more terrifying than Manhattan’s darkest alley.

When the Constantines win the friendship of the town matriarch, the mysterious Widow Fortune, they are invited to join the ancient festival of Harvest Home, a ceremony whose quaintness disguises dark intentions. In this bucolic hamlet, where bootleggers work by moonlight and all of the villagers seem to share the same last name, the past is more present than outsiders can fathom - and something far more sinister than the annual harvest is about to rise out of the earth.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING AND WIATING FOR THIS BOOK!

Where does Harvest Home rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

IN THE TOP 10. I HAVE OVER 160 BOOKS AND HAVE READ ABOUT 130 OR SO.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Harvest Home?

MANY. I CAN PICK ONE BUT THERE WERE MANY MOMENTS. I WILL CHOOSE WHEN NICK REALIZED WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO JACK STUMP.

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Yen – was your favorite?

THE WIDOW FORTUNE. BUT ALL WERE GREAT. ROBERT WAS DONE WELL TOO.

If you could take any character from Harvest Home out to dinner, who would it be and why?

GEE, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE SEVERAL. I THINK JUSTIN OR ROBERT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THEY REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT IN THIS STORY. I THINK ROBERT HELD BACK A LOT. TAMAR SPOOKED ME. I THINK I WOULD BE INTIMIDATED BY HER.

Any additional comments?

WHEN I COULD READ PHYSICALLY I MUST HAVE READ THIS BOOK AT LEAST 5 TIMES MAYBE MORE. I SAW THE MOVIE TOO. GOOD MOVIE (DARK SECRET OF HARVEST HOME). THE AUDIOBOOK MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO READ AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Typical "Burnt Offerings" Story

Any additional comments?

I'm disappointed. I'd read good things about this novel but it just wasn't nearly as engaging as I'd hoped. It's a very typical story. If you know "Wicker Man" or "Burnt Offerings" or even "Children of the Corn" then you know this story. It's so predictable that it's nearly boring. Save your credits on something more original.

One of my favorite books of all time.

I originally read this book when I was 14 years old and it haunted me for months. 45 years (and well over 300 books) later I decided to read it again. This book is as fresh as it was back then and it remains in my top 5 horror stories.

Gave up on

This story promised to be a nice, juicy ghost story. Just look at the cover. I have listened to over half the book and, aside from some minor occult experiences, there is still nothing much happening. Much forshadowing with no follow-through. I found myself wondering why I was sticking in, so I stopped.

Flat Narration

Have you ever had a narrator describe a barfight, ghost, and a cornfield in the same slow sad tambre? well thats this story. I get the feeling he would rather be getting teeth pulled.

Creepy and enthralling

The story keeps you interested, with multiple twists and turns that I did not see coming.

Good Ending, But Needs a ReRead

The narrator did no justice to this story. His corny reading of the dialogue, and absolutely terrible accents and character voices almost sunk this book for me, but I persevered. If someone with talent read this novel, it would be five stars all across. A shame.

Predictable

The narration was ok. Not much of a fan of men narrating female parts. The story predictable. Guess it wasn't a complete waste.

Ain’t no “The Other”

If you haven’t already read Tyron’s The Other, then definitely get that one first. If you’ve seen The Wicker Man, you’ve read this book. Still, Tyron’s a good writer.
