Good listen!
Jilly Bond's narration is wonderful-- really fleshes out this the many characters in this compelling human drama.

Disappointing
The characters were not believable, chapters seemed repetitive, and the narrator's voice for the protagonist's lover made him seem unhinged and unattractive contrary to the author's apparent intentions.

Bravo Mrs Howard!
I wasn't sure what to expect of this first novel but was intrigued enough to want to hear it. Sandra Howard has done herself proud. This is an engaging and well written book. Above all it is a damn good story that keeps you gripped from page one with full bodied characters and a stimulating plot. The quality of the reading is very important too and can make or break an Audio book for me and this was sympathetically done. Carry on Mrs Howard!

Annoying!
I'm about two thirds of the way through this one, but I'm sorry I just can't keep going. I found it shallow and frustrating. The central female character is supposed to be a minister who is on her way to great things. I found her far too pathetic to imagine she could be going anywhere. How does she manage to put up with the two men in her life? But probably even more annoying is the narrator's voice. All the male voices are the same - gruff and angry. Even when one of them says something tender or even funny it sounds like he's angry. Perhaps that makes it seem even more one dimensional that it really is. I may eventually finish it and it's always possible that it will improve....
