It’s been 120 years since the 50 or so worldships containing the few million survivors of the human species set off after the planet Earth was destroyed by a meteor. On the Worldship Humility, Sam, a 30-year-old Airlock Operative, is bored. The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Solitario Cisneros thought his life was over long ago. He lost his wife, his family, even his country in the late 1870s when the Rio Grande shifted course, stranding the Mexican town of Olvido on the Texas side of the border. He’d made his brooding peace with retiring his gun and badge, hiding out on his ranch, and communing with horses and ghosts.

FOR POSTERIORS
DELETED SCENE
The main word is scene. This is not a short story, it is not an episode, it is an introduction scene. A deleted scene at that. It was okay, a bit cute and a lot British. Several gay jokes, which I found weird, since I thought most of England was you know, a little light in the loafers. A big part of the scene was taken up with each individual introducing himself. Before that we got a list of characters and the weapons they use and there was a slaughter part to show how they use the weapons.
I was intrigued that there is a Zombie series out where they actually go out with the sole purpose of killing Zombies. I have read so many Zombie books and watch Zombie series and movies, and I always wonder, why are they not out there purposely clearing the area. If the first book in the series goes on sale (and the $4.95 first in a series sale should be any day now) then I will give it a try. This Scene did not sale me on the series.

Wow!
Originally, I passed on this series because the first book wasn't very long and I wanted more story time for my credit. I downloaded the first book before this free story was over without any credits left cause I couldn't wait to get started. Great story, great performance. Well played Haywood, well played.

Listen to Books 1-3 FIRST!!!!
Would you listen to FREE: The Undead again? Why?
Yes, this book is well worth an additional listen just to get an idea of who Howie and Dave will meet in the next books.
What did you like best about this story?
The thing I like best about this story is the introduction of new characters. I also liked the fact that I got a quick peak of who is still fighting along side Howie and Dave.
What about Dan Morgan’s performance did you like?
He brings the characters to life. I love how he changes his pace from when he is telling the story to when he is narrating in first person. It helps distinguish between the dialog and the story.
If you could rename FREE: The Undead, what would you call it?
I would rename the book: The Undead: Deleted Scenes Days 8-13
Any additional comments?
These are deleted scenes AFTER book 3. I listen to all three books BEFORE I listen to this book and it made much more sense. These deleted scenes include characters from the first 3 books and characters that will be introduced in the later books.

Fresh, British, dark humour!
Really good, didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised. Main group of characters are entertaining, banter like a group of British Army Squaddies and add a real human 'gritty' feel. Very british so id strongly recommend this to any zombie fans in the UK as i think you will relate to the language. Ive bought the series and am looking forward to listening to it! Thankyou!

Thank goodness it was only an hour wasted
This free, one hour long audiobook was supposed to be an awesome draw into a new zombie series. The draw wasn't there for me.
They fought off some zombies with a German shepherd (I own two, so I actually cared about the dog) but the other characters, not so much.
There was no plot to this story and after listening to this I have no interest in the rest of the series.
