Publisher's summary

Tehran, Iran 1979: Simmering religious tensions explode and the Shah is forced to flee Iran. A British helicopter company—secretly owned by the Noble House of Hong Kong—with a fleet of helicopters registered in Iran faces bankruptcy if their copters are claimed or destroyed by the uprising. The pilots need to escape, but they’ve built lives in Iran, some even have families. Finnish pilot Erikki Yokkonen has married Azadeh, an Iranian woman of noble birth, whose family is caught up in the political situation exploding around them. Tasked with saving as many of the helicopters as he can and desperate to save his love, Erikki and Azadeh become caught up in the events around them.

Threaded throughout master storyteller James Clavell’s novel Whirlwind much like a shimmering strand of silk woven through an elaborate Persian carpet, is the love story of two people from different backgrounds. They have been brought together by a love stronger than either one, a love stronger than the revolutionary fires that burn all around them. A moving story, expertly told, unthreaded from the original masterwork, and allowed to stand on its own, brilliantly.

Excerpts from Whirwind

I was disappointed with this audio book only because it appeared to only contain excerpts from Clavell's Whirlwind instead of an additional story. It was more of a summary of each party's escape from Iran, which was the story of Whirwind. I had just listened to Whirlwind, so it was like a rerun.

synopsis

if I had known 6.5 was merely a synopsis of 6, I would have saved my money & time.

Just whirlwind

excellent narrative but it seems that you heard the story before? Yes, Whirlwind the last novel. Nothing new but a good listen

Very Disappointing

This is billed as the next in the series but really it is just a summary of Whirlwind the previous book in the series!

Don't buy this.

if you've listened to Whirlwind, you've listened to this... like word for word in many places.

Escape is basically just taking the love plot from Whirlwind and reprinting it with a new title.

was really confused and thought I had restarted the wrong book.

Disappointed! Do Not Waste Your Money!

If yo u read Whirlwind, you read Escape. Fans of James Clavel are taken advantage of with the publication of this book. There cannot be one word in this book that is not found in Whirlwind. The only change was to reduce the story down to primarily two characters that we followed in Whirlwind. I kept hoping to get their story told with more detail, but that was not the case. If you want to read James Clavel's Asian Saga, stop with Whirlwind. Escape is a ripoff and huge disappointment!

Disappointment

I should have paid attention to other reviews. This is simply a word by word repeat of Whirlwind. What a cheat.

An abridged version of Whirlwind:

This an abridged version of Book 6 in this "Asian Saga". Making it number 7 in a saga implies that it is a new book and not an abridged version of the last book in the series. It was a good story and I could see wanting to listen to a 12 hour story compared to the 50 hour story it is created from, yet the marketing around it is completely misleading and therefore I am giving it a 1 star.
