Publisher's summary

On a summer day in 1945, Louisa Gordon receives a telegram from the International Red Cross Tracing Service. Her young cousin, Elisabeth, has just been released from Dachau, a concentration camp, and Louisa is her only remaining relative.

Determined to go to war-torn Germany to retrieve her cousin, Louisa is also on a mission to discover the whereabouts of Friedrich Mueller, a Nazi sympathizer who fled Copper Springs, Arizona. What Louisa never expected was to meet the man she had once loved. And now hated.

Should have stayed with narrator from first book

The story of the book was very good but the narrator was poor in my opinion. Could not pronounce lots of words & didn't sound German. It was just irritating to me!

Disappointed with the reader

Suzanne's writing of the sequel story was as wonderful as 'Copper Star' and from that aspect more than met my expectations!
The reading by Ms Nichols, however disrupted the story as I found myself mentally correcting her pronunciation or totally distracting when I was not sure what the actual word was supposed to have been.
The skill of Suzanne Woods Fisher's story telling made it possible for me to still enjoy the book.

Incredibly Poor Performance

If you ever wanted to hear a robot read a story, then this is the book for you! Now I now what they've done with the old GPS systems-that used to sit on our dashboards-they've turned them into narrators, complete with staccato cadence, many, many mispronounced words, and quite unfeeling voice inflections! Absolutely astonishing that they would produce this! The only reason I finished it was because I loved book one, even though that narrator could only do the main voice well. This narrator completely eliminated the main character's German accent that was rightly present in the first book. And when she did the voice of the cousin, rather than sounding like a German speaking English, she sounded like a Japanese person trying to speak English with a German accent! The entire thing was bizarre, and I had to keep imagining it differently in my head! I do like Suzanne‘s stories and this was a good one. Good luck, if you try to listen to it. And if you see my Garmin, please say hello!

HORRIBLE narrator.

Would you try another book from Suzanne Woods Fisher and/or Sheila Marie Nicholas?

Fisher yes, Nicholas no.

What didn’t you like about Sheila Marie Nicholas’s performance?

Sounds like a robot or Ben Stein, horrible at accents except once in a while when pronouncing someone's name, but sometimes says "Eleezabeth" and sometimes says "Elizabeth" so even that is not consistent.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Extreme annoyance at the narrator. I started skipping ahead in chapter 4 and eventually just skipped to the last chapter.

Also wondered about the storyline re: Louisa being pregnant at the end of book 1, but no mention of it at all in the first 4 chapters of Book 2. After that I started skipping around so I might have missed it, but if 2 years had gone by since the end of book 1, surely it would have been mentioned that there was a new toddler in the home, Williams younger brother/sister, but no, nothing was said about it at all, not even miscarriage, just nothing.

Overall extremely disappointed and wish I could return it and get my wasted credit back.
