Publisher's summary

When Lise Redding's estranged sister, country-pop star Callie Redfern, is killed during a publicity stunt, the small-town music teacher is dragged from her quiet life into the spotlight.

Lise hadn't spoken with Callie in ten years, ever since Callie's betrayal split them apart, so she's shocked to discover that she's inherited her sister's massive estate. Not only that, but Lise is now the guardian of her sixteen-year-old niece, Ariel, to whom she's practically a stranger.

Overwhelmed by grief and her new responsibilities, Lise thinks things couldn't get worse. But overnight she becomes the paparazzi's latest obsession. Suddenly she and her longtime friend Dale are plastered over the front pages of the tabloids. Desperate to escape both the media and her memories, Lise sets off with Ariel on a search for the girl's father. Yet instead of granting Lise a reprieve, the quest brings her face-to-face with long-buried secrets. Only by learning to forgive will she be able to find her way back home.

Great story

I don't write a lot of reviews but they make it so easy now and I really liked this book. Not sure why but I enjoyed the characters their plights and the tempo of the book. Hope you enjoy!

What a terrific read.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. For a refreshing change-a great story thats not a detective, spy, other thriller or a romance.

What other book might you compare Closer Home to and why?

At the moment it stands alone-unique..

Which character – as performed by Teri Clark Linden – was your favorite?

Lise-The main character.

Who was the most memorable character of Closer Home and why?

The answer is the same as above.

Any additional comments?

Audible needs to pair great authors with great narrators more often as in this book. Often great stories are ruined by the narrators.

Two stars for the story it could have been

I so wanted to like this book but made it less than halfway through. Analiese is a mess. This is a woman who apparently has only one friend (even though she has apparently lived in the same town all her life). Though she's known this man forever, she still hasn't figured out their relationship. She has no contact with family except a mother in a nursing home, until her sister dies, leaving a 16 year old daughter. You find all this out at the very beginning. The rest is just torture. She is a grown woman still struggling with issues from high school. In addition, when faced with a willful, grieving, neglected 16 year old who needs answers, she continues to worry over her own problems. I don't think the narrator helped the situation, though her voice may indeed have been that of the self-involved main character. This book could have been about a wonderful journey of self-discovery and new forged bonds and family, but it wasn't getting there almost halfway through and I couldn't wait any longer.

Good summer listen

I bought this book on sale for $4.95, so wasn't expecting a great listen just something to get me by til I got my monthly credit. Actually the story was good and did keep me listening. Even though I thought I knew who was Ariel's father, the story getting there was good. The narrator was good with the female voices, but the male voices were pretty bad. Still a pretty good listen.

Great story

I have loved every one of Kerry Anne King's books. This one was just as beautiful as the rest. Each one seems to be a message about love, family, hope, and compassion. I was a little annoyed at the immaturity of the "adults" in the story, but everything worked well together to move the plot along. Good, heartfelt story. I highly recommend.

Loved it!

I think it started kind of slowly, but the characters were so well developed, and the plot thickended as you went along and the ending was very, very satisfactory

Voice was hard to listen to

The main characters voice was ok but the voices for the others were terrible. The young guy sounded like he was under water….
Characters lacked depth. The main character wasn’t really like able and neither was her love interest
