Publisher's Summary

Eight-year-old TC skips school to explore the city’s overgrown, forgotten corners. Sophia, 78, watches with concern as he slips past her window, through the park. Jozef can’t forget the farm he left behind in Poland, its woods and fields still a part of him although he is a thousand miles away. When he meets TC, he finds a kindred spirit: both lonely, both looking for something, both lost.

Fantastic reading

This is one of the best - no, THE best! narrating I've heard on a spoken book. Great story too. Highly recommend.

A tale of nature and grit in the city

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes very much so. I loved her descriptions of the natural world in the city, and the human characters are well formed too.

Any additional comments?

I loved all of this book. It is read perfectly by Clare Corbett. It is about what goes on in the 'undergrowth': in the bits of greenery that form background to our city lives and how we notice it or ignore it. The main characters are 2 children from very different backgrounds whose paths cross and a Polish man who daringly befriends one of them.Melissa Harrison's descriptions are beautiful. She writes lyrically without being sentimental.I wish Audible would have more books like this including Melissa Harrison's latest 'In Hawthorn Time'
