Publisher's summary

It's the most wonderful time of the year...and the perfect moment to escape to a charming English village! From the beloved author whose novels are "sheer indulgence from start to finish" (Sophie Kinsella) comes a delightful holiday story - funny, heartfelt, romantic, and packed with recipes - perfect for the winter months.

In the Cornish coastal village of Mount Polbearne, the Christmas season has arrived. It's a joyous time for family, friends, and feasting, as decorations sparkle along the town's winding streets and shop windows glow with festive displays. And in Polly's Little Beach Street Bakery, the aroma of gingerbread cookies and other treats tempts people in from the cold.

Though Polly is busy keeping up with the demands of the season, she still makes time for her beekeeper boyfriend, Huckle. She's especially happy to be celebrating the holiday this year with him and can't wait to cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a cup of eggnog on Christmas Eve.

But holiday bliss soon gives way to panic when a storm cuts the village off from the mainland. Now it will take all of the villagers to work together in order to ensure everyone has a happy holiday.

Full of heart and humor, Jenny Colgan's latest novel is an instant Christmastime classic.

Book not as described

This book was described as a charming little cottage bakery Christmas story. Rather; the book was written about a woman with a troubled past that could not commit to her fiancé, her friend who committed adultery and believed she was giving birth to another man’s baby; and although all was sorted in the end this was not a charming bakery Christmas book by ANY means.

Drop the southern accent

The American accent is terrible, really makes it hard to actually listen to the story.

I had such a lovely time with this book

This book was exactly what I needed. I love these characters, what a mish mash with little and yet so much to recommend them. Perfect story for this time of the year. I cannot do the things I once did so easily, this book took my mind right into it and thoroughly entertained me. Thank you truly.

Cute story, but the American accent?

Ooooh I so wish they didn’t attempt an American accent. I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m finding it incredibly distracting and almost offensive whenever the reader tries to talk like an American man, but I’m not giving up just yet :) I can only imagine it’s hard to try and switch accents, it just loses the real ness of the story when it’s done as such a caricature

struggled

The last few minutes didn't make up for hours of misery . No southern man sounds like poor Huckle.

delicious

A bit wordy. Sweet story. Most of the voices were good. Great setting and food detail.

Magical

I really enjoyed this book. The story and the atmosphere where perfectly described. The only thing that bothered me was Huckles accent. I’ve never meet anyone from Virginia with such a deep
Southern accent like that. Besides that very charming.

Horrifying Jewish Stereotypes

There are so many things I have loved and adored about this series. But the portrayal of Reuben (the rich, token Jew) has bothered me from the start. In this book, the depiction of Reuben’s family (the mother in fur, for one) was so distracting and horrifying I’m not even sure I’ll be able to make it through the entire book.
