Prospect City Councilman Danny Swope had two bad habits. He drank too much and he beat his wife. Throw in an overbearing personality, and Police Chief Sam Jenkins isn't surprised when Danny is found shot to death. Jenkins' investigation takes him into the world of cowboy action shooters and his own deadly fast-draw contest.
David Colacci performs the character of Sam Jenkins, an honorable but hard-boiled small-town police chief, with all the gusto of an old noir serial. One pictures Colacci in a dimly lit office sipping rye, smoking a cigar, and relating this first-person mystery narrative by author Wayne Zurl. His delivery of Jenkins with weathered voice and New York accent contrasts the other characters' southern drawl, as the story takes place in Tennessee. It is as much a cowboy story as detective fiction. The plot involves small-town politics and murder. Sam was already involved in a local politician and his wife’s domestic abuse problems when the politician gets murdered. Any mystery fan will find it impossible to pause Bullets Off-Broadway: A Sam Jenkins Mystery.
