Publisher's summary

The author of more than a million books sold brings a gripping saga of the little girl who goes missing in 1943 and the sister who remains, forced to live with the consequences of the event for the next 70 years of her life.

When cold case agent Meghan DeFord is forced to take a six-week leave of absence after a traffic accident, she chooses to spend the time with her grandmother, whose 80th birthday is approaching. Meghan has wonderful memories of childhood summers with her Grandma Hazel and anticipates a time of relaxation and filling a scrapbook with pictures of their time together.

Meghan's mother, Diane, arrives unexpectedly and brings her long resentment towards Hazel for her overprotectiveness and near paranoia. During their time together, Hazel confesses her long-held secret: When she was a child, her little sister disappeared and no one ever found out what happened to her. That loss skewed Hazel's view of the world and affected every relationship. Meghan determines to discover not only what happened to Maggie, but to heal the rift between the two women she loves most in the world.

I couldn’t stop listening

I usually only listen while I run or drive longer distances, but the character were so real and the story so compelling that I couldn’t stop listening!

Loved it

I really enjoyed this story. The use of Bible verses and a Christian man as one of the main characters was a true blessing. It was so very heartwarming. I did guess what happened to Maggie but that did not make it any less interesting to me.

Not What I Was Expecting

The story was less a mystery and suspense novel and more a story about mending the relationships between three generations of women. Another major theme was their relationship with God. The actual searching and finding of Maggie was uneventful and mostly in the background of the story. I think I would’ve enjoyed the story more if finding Maggie was more a central part of the story. But for what it was, it was a sweet story.

Amazing story and narrator

Loved this book from the very beginning. Characterization and dialogue are very real and it seems like real people. I hated to see it end. Love this author who never disappoints and the narration was also excellent. Story makes you think about the “what if’s.”

exceptional

I have listened to so many Amish-based (and similar fiction) stories that its nearing the level of bizarre. This one is beautifully written with a fresh plot and very interesting twists and turns.

Wonderful Read

Great story about a little girl who disappears one day & her sister's search for her. There is so much she goes thru along with her family. You'll have to listen to the story to find out the end.

Good base story

Base story was good but lots of bible/Christian talk. I was not expecting this. Also never addressed the hypocrisy of the congregation towards Dianne. Very disappointed Megan didn’t meet her father.
