Publisher's summary

Caroline Fyffe returns to the windswept prairies of Wyoming with a beautiful story of rekindled love.... Thomas Donovan spent eight long years in prison, convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. Finally released, he returns home to Logan Meadows, Wyoming, to reclaim his life. What he finds, though, is his beloved family long gone and the townsfolk wary of an accused thief. The future looks bleak - until a former love becomes his unlikely champion in the community and reignites the fire in his guarded heart....

Hannah Hoskins was brokenhearted when Thom Donovan was sent away, but now the boy she loved has returned home a man - a man whom Hannah’s suitor, the town’s deputy sheriff, is determined to destroy. When a crime spree starts anew, suspicion immediately falls on Thom, and it’s up to Hannah to prove his innocence, earn him a second chance at life - and win them both a second chance at love.

A great story about a second chance.

I loved going back to Logan Meadows to catch up with previous characters and see what they have been up to since the last book, Where The Wind Blows. Tom Donovan just got out of prison and is trying to get his life back on track while one day hoping to clear his name. Before the Larkspur Blooms is Book 2 in this series and the author has done a great job at weaving a story set in the 1800s. The reader can definitely picture the town, the countryside and get to know the people as neighbors and friends. This is a lovely story of second chances, with wonderful secondary characters and a few really bad guys thrown in to make the story a page-turner.

While the narrator did a good job telling the story, I didn't like that he made the characters sound older than they were.

Before the Larkspur Blooms: A Prairie Hearts Novel

I absolutely loved this story. While all of the characters were wonderfully written, Ivan stole my heart. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a heartwarming tale.

Nice story, excellent narrator

The story was indeed heartwarming -- maybe even too sweet. I liked the characters, and there were plenty of strong, competent and independent women. The hero had a lot of challenges that he met with courage and integrity. But the story suffered from the fact that he was in a coma for months in the last couple of chapters, and only awoke in the last 3-5 minutes to declare he would marry the woman to whom he had declared his love and who'd declared her love for him.
The star of this audiobook though was the narrator, Patrick Lawlor. He did a brilliant job with the voices, including the women. A highlight was when he SANG some songs in a woman's voice. Quite remarkable and entertaining. He also performed as opposed to just reading the book. He's now one of my favorite narrators.

Love for a criminal or not?

I wasn’t excited when I first started listening to this book. I’m not sure what chapter it was that I could not stop listening to it. I usually only listen when I’m traveling but I found myself listening every day even when I wasn’t on the road. It’s a good book.
