Instead young Bird must face her struggles and limitations. How to overcome them becomes clearer when she meets Miss Zora, a mysterious and kindly black healer whose prayers over the bones of winged creatures are meant to guide their souls to heaven. What the Critics Say

"From the first sentences of this novel, listeners are entranced both by its vivid sense of place and people, as well as the author's lilting, twangy Southern accent...There aren?t many audiobook stories of self-discovery as engaging as this one." (AudioFile)

Way Way Better than Secret Life of Bees

A young girl tries to "come of age" while her family collapses around her. She's rescued by a mysterious woman with seemingly magical powers. Similar story to Secret Life of Bees but way way better.

- Barbara "Since taking my first creative writing class in 2008 the pleasure I used to get from reading has been greatly reduced. I notice things I never noticed before. That said, I think I rate books pretty generously. Anyone who actually manages to write a whole book and then get it published deserves an extra star."
