Publisher's summary

Ray McKenna returns from the war in Iraq to find that she had attained unwanted celebrity status back home. As the only surviving American soldier of a well-publicized hostage crisis, she is the center of attention at a time when all she wants is solitude. Struggling to overcome the fear and anxiety that plague her, she relies on her psychiatric therapy dog Jagger to help her through the vicious symptoms of PTSD. Veterinarian Dr. Carly Warner hasn't yet figured out how to open her heart to the possibility of falling in love again after the death of her longtime partner. When Ray McKenna walks into the North Coast Veterinary Clinic with Jagger, she and Carly begin a friendship that takes them both by surprise. Brought together by their shared love of dogs, Ray and Carly discover that they are both capable of moving forward, if only they are brave enough to try.

Terrible Narrator

Would you try another book from Meghan O'Brien and/or Amanda Goodyear?

I would like to continue listening/reading Meghan O'Brien's books, but I really don't think I could tolerate listening to this narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She actually detracted from the story. I felt like her voice was very grating and I often was pulled from the story because I was so distracted.

Was Battle Scars worth the listening time?

I did enjoy the story but the narration was awful.

Horrible voice

I love this story but the voice butchered it completely. I was so disappointed. Shame

Terrible Narration!

Narrator is just awful. Story lacks good conversation between main characters but the premise of the story is fantastic!

potentially a great listen

Ok the story was sound. The narrator had a decent enough voice and that's where it ends; no concept on how to tell the story or how to portray the characters at all.

Great Book .... Awful Narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend the book in e-book format. Ms. Goodyear did not do the book justice. She read it as if the characters were teenagers. She read the book as if she was in a race. There was no passion read into the love scenes. If I had not read the e-book before I purchased the audible book, I would have hated it.

What did you like best about this story?

Ms. O'Brien made you feel for both women in the story. I like the true conflict. It made since.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amanda Goodyear’s performances?

No ... never.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very end .... to say more would be a spoiler

good read

The story is good, the problem with ptsd well described. But the narrator's voice IMO don't suit this story.

This is a great book

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The plot was a good strong story and fairly accurate portrayal of someone with PTSD and agoraphobia and the struggles they go through. I highly recommend reading this book.

Good Book.. But ...

I listened to “The Night Off” and I was totally blown by the book. I downloaded Battle Scars because I thought I would get the same fix. I was utterly disappointed. I love the story line but what killed it for me was the narrator. There were no emotions. The characters all sounded the same. There were no feelings behind the narrations. Everything sounded platonic. I had a hard time listening to her. I would so ask Alexandria Wilde the narrator for The Night Off to narrate this book and do it ALL OVER AGAIN.

good story, strange audio

This story was very enjoyable. It's simple and cute.
However the narration was strange, it was like she kept moving away from the microphone. the narrator herself wasn't too bad, but the inconsistency was a little annoying.

Great story, awful narrator

It's a shame that this book wasn't narrated better. The story is really great. There aren't many books that deal with PTSD, and even fewer that are love stories. Meghan O'Brien is by far one of my favorite authors in this category, I will buy every book she writes, I just hope she gets a different narrator for her next book.
