Publisher's summary

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable.

Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich, provincial comedy in which mysteries and miracles abound.

Don't miss out on the rest of Father Tim's adventures in Mitford.

Come visit Mitford you'll never leave

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes!!!! This is a heartwarming book with plenty of laughter a little romance and a feeling of down home comfort.

What did you like best about this story?

Father Tim adopts a dog who is controlled by scriptures, a boy who was raised with no manners and a town with the funniest people where do I begin. This book has you laughing at its antics from the very beginning. I loved the whole story.

Great story

I had absolutely no expectations for this book. It turned out to be a fantastic surprise. One of the most relaxing books I've ever listen to.

Not my usual read but...

I'm so glad I grabbed this story on a whim. it was fantastic. I laughed out loud over tyke funny stuff, was sad over the sad stuff and felt Father Tim's love and faith in an almost profound way. I'm mortally into horror and cop dramas with regular mysteries thrown in but this book was more than worth my time.

What's not to love?

A great light yet heart-filled "read." Loved John McDonough's reading of it. Felt like I'd been living in Mitford with all those characters by the end. Didn't want it to end. Good thing there's others for me to delve into.

Comfort food

Any additional comments?

This book is squeaky clean and delightful. The whole series is wonderful. I have read these books multiple times and each time find new things to love. The recording makes it really come to life. Mitford is the town I escape to when things get crazy.

Like hearing a story from your best friend

While this book may have started out a little bit slow, it ended up being one of my favorite books! I could completely imagine the characters and scenes. My dad is a pastor and while he was married young, (unlike this main character) they both have a lot of similarities that made this book endearing and gave me fond comparisons with my own father. I literally felt “At home in Mitford.” The personalities are so realistic. I also love the way the author describes things. She is not fluffy but genuinely helps you picture the scene she has created. Love this book! Also, the reader was excellent with the different voices.

Slow and long

This was a very long, drawn-out story. Don't know if I'll continue with the series if they are not considerably shorter than this one. But a feel good book.

This was a wonderful book & a great story.

I truly love this book because every time I listen to it I feel as though I live in Mitford & that I'm back there with all my friends, like Uncle Bille & Sadie Baxter. It is simply wonderful.
